Moonsighting for Jumada-at-Thani 1423
August 8, 2002 (Thursday): No moon sighting reports from anywhere.
August 9, 2002 (Friday): Hussain Khushaish from Kuwait reported: "On Friday 9 August, I could not see the crescent even with 20*60 binocular. Actually I could not see the sun disc 9 minutes before our local sunset which means it was hazy with very fine dust the last 10 degrees." Mohammad Odeh from Jordan reported: "I've seen the crescent along with another 6 persons from Ash-Sharah Mountains 230 Km South of Amman (1735 meters above sea level) by 10" LX200 Meade Telescope one minutes before sunset, and a few minutes later I was able to see it by naked eyes. Many observers of JAS were able to see the crescent by naked eyes from Amman, too." Rashid Motala from South Africa reported: "There were sighting reports for the moon from Bakoven in the Cape this evening. Was not seen at Signal Hill where visibility was poor. No other reports upto now." Muhammad Hafiz from Opa Locka, Florida reporetd: "New Crescent observation in Opa Locka, Florida, USA on Friday, 9th August, 2002 was impossible due to rainy clouds on the western horizon." Gulamabbas A. Khakoo from Buena Park, CA reported: "Sighted the "CRESCENT" with naked eye for the month of Jamad-at-Thani this evening of August 9th, 2002. Local time 20:00Hrs here in the city of Buena Park, (approx. 30 miles south of Los Angeles). The top horn of the crescent was approx. at 1 and the bottom horn was approx. just after 7. The sighting was very clear." Javad Torabinejad from Logan, Utah (ICOP member) reported: "On August 9, I just saw the moon in Logan (about 8:47 pm). It was very easy, of course." |
