Moonsighting for Rajab 1423

Old Moon on September 6, 2002 (Friday morning)

Jim Stamm from Tucson, Arizona reported: I was NOT able to see the crescent, even through a telescope.

Altitude = 5 degrees
Azimuth = 78 degrees
Elongation of the Moon from Sun = 9.1 degrees
Percent of surface that was lit = 0.77 percent
Age of the moon from new at moonrise = 14hr 49min
Ending Time = 6:10 p.m. (MST) 13:10 (UT) It was clear to begin with, but light hazy banded clouds moved in.


New Moon Observation on September 7, 2002 (Saturday):

Hussain Khushaish from Kuwait reported: In Kuwait on Saturday, 7 Sep 2002 we tried to sight the crescent but we could not see the crescent even with binocular.

Rashid Motala from South Africa reported: The Hilaal was not sighted this evening (Saturday, September 7) in S. Africa.

Lars Johnson from Trinidad (West Indies) reported: This Saturday, 7th September 2002, which we marked also as 29th Jumad-ul-Akhir 1423, members of our Jamaat, the Islamic Resource Society (IRS) of Queen Street, Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, saw the crescent moon which marked the beginning of the month of Rajab 1423.
The time was 6:39 p.m. (10:39 UDT) and three members of the IRS were present. All of us saw a clear crescent with the naked eye, in shape extending between what would be the positions of the numbers from 4 o'clock to 8 0'clock on a watch face.
This reporter saw the crescent fiest, and pointed it out first to IRS Council Member and Jurist Ahmad Balewa, and then Asim Luqman. We kept the crescent in view for a couple minutes, leaving the viewing location, a 3rd story loft in out downtown Headqurters Center at 6:41 p.m.

Muhammad Hafiz from Opa Locka, Florida reporetd: New Crescent observation in Opa Locka, Florida, USA on Saturday, 7th September, 2002 was impossible due to rainy clouds on the horizon.

Javad Torabinejad from Logan, Utah (ICOP member) reported: We tried to sight the moon in a couple or so small clear patches in the western horizon with no success.

New Moon Observation on September 8, 2002 (Sunday):

Mr Mahmood Essa from Mombasa, Kenya reported: I am happy to let you know that I was able to observe the new crescent for the month of Rajab, this evening, Sunday, Sep 8th. Thus, Monday 09/09/02 will be our first day of Rajab.

Hussain Khushaish from Kuwait reported: On Sunday, 8 Sep 2002 I sighted the crecsent at 17:58 that's 5 minutes before our local sunset with naked eyes till 18:58 that's 17 minutes before moonset.
