Moonsighting for Sha'ban 1423
October 6, 2002 (Sunday): Hussain Khushaish from Kuwait reported: "On Sunday, 6 Oct 2002 we tried to sight the Sha'ban crescent but we could not see it even with binocular." Taalib Masudi from Damascus reported: "Two of us looked today October 6, 2002 outside Damascus and nothing seen. Just prior to sunset until 6:45pm." Javad Torabinejad from (ICOP member) from Logan Utah, USA reported: "Two of us went to Smithfield, Utah. In spite of the clear sky, this evening Oct 6, we were unable to sight the moon even with binoculars. We got to the sighting location before sunset and stayed there for about 30 min after sunset, scanning the horizon. We could however, see Venus with naked eye." Dr. A. Raza Khan, Assistant Professor of Chemistry from Wayne, Nebraska USA reported: "New moon was not sighted in Nebraska USA on Sunday Oct. 6th, 2002 due to heavy clouds. According to my fiancee, the new moon was not sighted by her and her family in San Fransisco, CA even though the weather was very cooperative on Sunday."
October 7, 2002 (Monday): Mushtaq Anwer Ali Rashid From Hodeidah - Yemen reported: "I am pleased to inform you that I had sighted the crescent today 7th september 2002 at 6:25pm Yemen time, at red sea shore in hodeidah, Yemen." Hussain Khushaish from Kuwait reported: "On 7 oct 2002, we (a group of 12 persons) could see the crescent with naked eyes at 17:44 that's 17 minutes after our local sunset untill 18:00 that's 22 minutes before moonset." Mahmood Essa fro Mombasa, Kenya reported: "I am happy to report that I was able to observe the new crescent quite easily on October 7 evening, without optical aids, and thus today, Tuesday, Oct 8 is our first day of shabaan." Sultan Hafiz from Guyana reported: "Attempts were made to observe the New Crescent by himself and members of Rose Hall Town Masjid and Rose Hall Town Islamic Center on October 7th, 2001 at 6:00 PM. The New Crescent was seen by many without any difficulty." Muhammad Hafiz from Opa Locka, Florida reporetd: "The Hilal (New Crescent) was observed in Opa Locka, Florida, USA on Monday, 07th October, 2002 at 7:20 PM. The upper horn of the Hilal was ponting at the 1 o'clock position and the lower horn at the 7 o'clock position." Javad Torabinejad from (ICOP member) from Logan Utah, USA reported: "I saw the moon at the time of sunset in Logan, UT." Gulamabbas A. Khakoo from Buena Park, CA reported: "Sighted the crescent with naked eye this evening of 7th OCT, 2002 18:45 hrs local time here in Buena Park, (30 miles S. of Los Angeles) California. Sighting was very clear." Abdul Sattar Ridhan from San Jose reported: "I have sighted a very easiy moon tonight (Oct 7) around 6:55 P.M." |
