Moonsighting for Rajab 1424

August 27, 2003 (Wednesday):

Javad Torabinejad (Moonsighting.com member) from Logan, Utah reported: On August 27 evening I tried to sight the moon in Logan, UT under a fair sky condition (with a few small pieces of clouds in the horizon and a little of haze) with no success, as predicted. I started a few min after sunset till 8:35; sunset was about 8:10.


August 28, 2003 (Thursday):

KARACHI, Aug 28: The moon marking the beginning of Rajab was not sighted on Thursday, Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman announced in a statement here on Thursday.

Abbas VAkil from Dubai (Moonsighting.com member) reported: There was Clear Sky on August 28, but Moon was not Visible. However It was clear on 29th and was visible at 06:50 pm Dubai time.

Rashid Motala (Moonsighting.com member) from South Africa reported: The crescent moon for Rajab was sighted on August 28, Thursday in S. Africa from Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth. Cape Town was raining heavily.

Muhammad Hafiz (Moonsighting.com member) from Opa Locka, Florida reporetd: The New Crescent was seen after sunset on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 8:15 PM in Opa Locka Florida, USA. It was easily visible for 7 min. and later became obscured by moving rainy clouds.

Javad Torabinejad (Moonsighting.com member) from Logan, Utah reported: Here in Logan, UT, the western horizon was cloudy with the exception of a narrow band next to distant mountains. I had to wait for sometime for the moon to appear in that opening. I saw it and followed it till it sat behind the mountains at about 9:00.

Hadi Jaafar (Moonsighting.com member) from Fort Collins, Colorado reported: On August 28, Thursday I sighted the moon at 7:45 P.M. ( 6 minutes after sunset) here in Fort Collins with a 7*50 Binocular, with horns between 1:00 and 6:30 approximately. The moon was at 260 degrees Bearing. At 7:48 I was able to sight the moon with the naked eye. It was easily visible thereafter.

Crescent first observed through 6x30 finder:

Altitude =    7 degrees

Crescent first observed with the naked eye:
Time     =    7:00 p.m. (MST)   02:00 (UT)
Altitude =    6 degrees

Local moonset at   7:56 p.m. (MST)  28 Aug. 2003
UT Time and Date of moonset = 02:56 29 Aug. 2003

There were many clouds in the sky, and this 
observation would have been trivial without them.
It turned out that it was trivial anyway.

Mary Singer (moonsighting.com member) from Spokane, WA reported: We saw the moon on August 28 at 7:50PM (Pacific Daylight Time) by binocular and at 7:51PM by the naked eye.
