Moonsighting for Safar 1424April 1, 2003 (Tuesday): Impossible to see today anywhere in the world and was not seen.
April 2, 2003 (Wednesday): Hussain Khushaish from Kuwait reported: In Kuwait on Wednesday, 2 April 2003 I could not sight the crescent even with 20*60 binocular fixed on tripod. We were able to see mercury with naked eyes easily. The western sky was very clear exept the last 2 degrees that we could see the actual sunset. Mr. AliReza Mehrani (ICOP Member) from Esfahan, Iran reported: With greetings from Esfahan! Many groups took measures on observing the crescent in Iran in the evening of April 2nd 2003. The present weather condition in Iran in early spring is definitely unstable. Most of the groups faced serious difficulties in the weather conditions. Those few who had no difficulties with the weather did not have optic tools. I personally had difficulties with the weather and could not see. Abdullah Mustafa from Southern Hungary reported: The western horizon was cloudy. The hilaal could not be sighted. Location was longitude E18.2, latitude N46.0, Sunset 19:16, Moonset 19:59. Mahmood Essa, (ICOP member), from Mombasa, Kenya reported: Please be informed that I tried to look for the safar cresent on the evening of Wednesday 02/04/03 but there was quite a bit of cloud cover and thus I was not able to see the new crescent. Rashid Motala from South Africa reported: The moon has not been sighted this evening of April 2, in S. Africa, with some clear skys. Kacem Bankih (ICOP member) from Beni Isguen, Ghardaïa, Algeria reported: 13 persons from Amnir and Najm clubs have tried to observe the Safar 1424 crescent from Merkich in Beni Isguen on April 2, but it was not seen. The western horizon was partly cloudy. Mercury (Mag=-1.3)was observed between clouds. Muhammad Hafiz from Opa Locka, Florida reporetd: I was unable to observe the New Crescent on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2003 because of clouds on the Horizon. Ruth Jeffery from Houston, Texas reprted: I wanted to let you know that the moon was sighted by three witnesses on Wednesday, April 2, at about 7:10 p.m. local time. Javad Torabinejad from Logan, Utah (ICOP member) reported: We sighted the moon about 7:13 pm MST on Wednesday, April 2, in Logan, UT. Gulamabbas A. Khakoo (ICOP Member) from Buena Park, CA reported: Sighted the crescent on the left side of the Sunset for the month of Safar 1424 AH this Wednesday evening of April 2nd, 2003 here in Long Beach, CA. Local time was 18:36hrs (6:36pm) with naked eye and it was very clear. The top horn of the crescent was between 12 & 1 and the bottom horn was between 7 & 8. Youssef Ismail from the SF Bay Area reported: On April 2, it was cloudy and raining in the bay area, but I ventured out to the coast and was on the beach when the clouds parted after Maghrib and gave me a clear view of the moon. |
