Moonsighting for Sha'ban 1424

September 26, 2003 (Friday):

Rashid Motala (ICOP & Moonsighting.com member) from South Africa reported: The Hilaal for Sha'baan was not sighted in S. Africa this evening, Friday. Fairly clear skies in some places.

Muhammad Hafiz (ICOP & Moonsighting.com member) from Opa Locka, Florida reporetd: I tried to oberve the Hilal on Friday, in Opa-Locka, Florida USA after sunset. The horizon was completely covered with rainy clouds making Hilal observation impossible.

Hadi Jaafar (Moonsighting.com member) from Fort Collins, Colorado reported: It was a hazy and a bit cloudy sky at the western horizon. I tried to sight the moon but I could not. Venus, however, was barely visible in some relatively less hazy patches low on the horizon at around 7:10, 17 minutes after sunset.

Paul Burnham (Moonsighting.com member) Chino Valley, AZ reported: I successfully observed the new moon from Chino Valley Arizona, it coming into view at 1841 local time using 15X70 binoculars. Due to bright haze, it was never visible to the naked eye prior to disappearing below the horizon at 18:52:30. Please note that I have fled the golden state for the clear skies of Arizona.

Javad Torabinejad (ICOP & Moonsighting.com member) from Logan, Utah reported: Using a pair of binoculars, on Friday, I sighted the moon in North Logan, UT. First sighting was at 7:29 pm; I could see it till it sat at about 7:50 pm. The moon was on the upper left of Venus with the horns at 2:30 and 6:30 O'Clock. The horizon was clear but hazy (Cache airport weather condition: Humidity 47%, Pressure 30.10", Dew point 42F, visibility 10 miles, and temperature 63F at 7:51 pm MDT). Local sunset was at 7:20 pm. I could not sight the moon with naked eye.

Crescent first observed with the naked eye:

Azimuth  =    264 degrees
Elongation of the Moon from Sun =   12 degrees

Final observation with telescope:

Superb sky.  Crescent was lost in crosshairs, or would have been seen 
earlier in finder.  Naked eye observations intermittent over 3 minute 
interval by both myself and my son, Joshua.


September 27, 2003 (Saturday):

Javad Torabinejad (ICOP & Moonsighting.com member) from Logan, Utah reported: I just attempted to sight the moon and could locate it first with binocular and then sight it with naked eye at 2:34 pm (Saturday 27th of September) here in Logan, UT. Sunset is listed at 7:18 pm.
Notice that the 30th day moon can be seen 5 hours before sunset!

APP - KARACHI reported on Sept 27: The Sha'aban moon has been sighted, says an announcement by the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee here on Saturday. Accordingly, the first of Sha'aban will fall on Sunday, Sept 28.

Mahmood Essa (ICOP & Moonsighting.com member) from Mombasa, Kenya reported: Please be informed that I was able to sight the shabaan crescent quite easily with naked eyes, on Saturday, 27/09/03. We completed 30 days of Shabaan and Sunday 28/09/03 is our first day of shabaan here in kenya.

Muhammad Hafiz (ICOP & Moonsighting.com member) from Opa Locka, Florida reporetd: On Saturday, 27th September, 2003 I observed the Hilal after sunset (7:45 PM) in Ft. Myers, Florida, USA. The Hilal observation was a easy one.

Zainal Abiden Bin Hani from Johor Bahru, Malaysia reported: I and my 3 friends saw the hilal of Sha'ban on 27/9/2003, Saturday from Mosque Bulatan Kg. Melayu Majidi, from 7:00 pm to 7:35 pm. It was about 15 degree high.

Khairul bin Othman from Johor Bahru, Malaysia reported: I and and 3 friends saw the hilal of Sha'ban on 27/9/2003, Saturday from Sultan Abu Bakar Jame' Mosque, from 7:15 pm to 7:45 pm. about 15 degree hilal heights.
