I have made an attempt to sight the crescent moon for Rajab 1425AH on 16 August 2004. The age of the moon was about 18 hours but is was not visible in England (UK). According to the UK newspapers that Rajab 1425AH begins on Tuesday 17 August 2004. The place, which I carried out the observation of the crescent moon was at Cradley Heath Mosque, Cradley Heath, Birmingham, England (UK). Anyway it was cloudy on Monday 16 August 2004. I will make another attempt on 17 August 2004 to sight the crescent moon at the age of 42 hours. The sunset time in England (UK) is about 20:32UTC.

I tried to oberve the Hilaal on Monday 16th August, 2004 in Opa-Locka, Florida USA after sunset. The horizon was completely covered with rainy clouds possibly due to the past huricane making Hilal observation impossible.

The members of Rose Hall Town Masjid and Islamic Center in Guyana also reported rainy clouds, preventing Hilaal observation on Monday 16th August, 2004.

Javad Torabinejad (ICOP & Moonsighting.com member) from Blacksburg, VA reported: Not Seen
This evening (Monday, August 16), my friend and I tried sighting the moon of Rajab, starting at sunset, in Blacksburg, VA, with no success. The Western horizon was hazy and partly cloudy with humidity around 75%. Several times, I was able to see Jupiter through the haze (very difficult with naked eye, however).

Hadi Jaafar, Ph.D. from Fort Collins, Colorado reported: Not seen

Paul Burnham (Moonsighting.com member) from Chino Meadows, AZ reported: Seen
The new moon of August 16 was observed (extremely briefly). The time of observation was between 19:40 and 19:42 MST as the new moon passed a narrow gap in the clouds. At no time was the entire crescent visible nor was it visible without binoculars.

If it hadn't been for the frustration of the overcast, it was a beautiful sunset with magnificent cloud formations, brilliant solar rays onto the underside of clouds and colors from pure gold to seashell pink. To add to the spectacle, there was a lightning storm growing to the Northwest to increase the excitement. (Next month I'll try to remember to take my camera as well as binoculars.)

Gary Peterson (Moonsighting.com member) from Phoenix Arizona reported: Not Seen
I didn't see the new moon tonight because while it was clear where the moon would have a half hour before sunset monsoon clouds have moved in 15 minutes after sunset. I noticed in the paper the moon set 47 minutes after sunset and also had the same declination as the sun at 4:57 MST. I noted where the sun was about 6:40 PM where it was in relation to trees and figured the moon would be nearly in the same spot 47 minutes later but by then it was too cloudy.
