Gary Peterson (MCW member) from Mesa Arizona reported: Not Seen
From Mesa, Arizona I attempted to sight the 16 and a half hour old moon from Mesa, Arizona with both binoculars and telescope today but did not see it. The sky was very clear with no cirrus clouds and the moon set 38 minutes after the sun. It had the same declination as the sun at 12:04 PM today so by sunset it would have been a degree north of the sun and setting 38 minutes behind the sun. By checking where the sun was at 6:15 PM I know that moon would be up and to the right of that spot 38 minutes later.
Abdul Sattar Ridhan (MCW member) from San Jose reported: Not Seen
Today, 3/10/2005 I tried to sight the Crescent with Binocular . Sky is very clear here in San Jose, California and after 20 Minutes of un-successful scanning of sky no moon to be sighted.

Muhammad Afifi al-Akiti (MCW Member) from Oxford, UK reported: Not Seen
Negative sighting. On our 29th day of Muharram, at the alternate site, 4 of my students and myself interrupted our class to moonsight. Unfortunately, it was moderately cloudy in Oxford and none of us was able to spot the expected visible crescent which was hiding high above and beyond the clouds (at itrifa' or altitude, 13.0 degrees). The difference in setting times of the sun and moon over the local horizon [qaws al-makth] is 98 minutes. Fortunately, I received news from the East that the Safar crescent was sighted after Maghrib in parts of Malaysia and Indonesia. This news is sufficient to establish [thubut] the Safar month for us in the UK so that tomorrow (the 12th of March), is the 1st of Safar; instead of the 30th of Muharram, by default, following the general rule in fiqh for this case: whenever the crescent is sighted during the night in question in the East, its sighting in the West follows, but not the other way round.
Modoris Ali from West Midlands, near Birmigham, UK reported: Not Seen
On 11 March 2005, the moonset was 98 minutes after sunset in the UK. The crescent moon was not sighted because it was raining and it was cloudy. Safar will begin on Saturday 12 March 2005, according to the UK Newspaper.

I was able to see the moon first with the naked eye at 6:28 PM which was just before the sun went down. I was able to do this first without using binoculars first. While I was in the shade some buildings still had the sun shining on them that were taller.

I witnessed and took photos of the Safar Moon with points at 3 O'clock and 7 O'clock. My nephews, Bashar and Nazar Syed also witnessed the Safar Moon from our apartment complex's parking lot. Easily seen with the naked eye as the sky is clear and the Moon is above the heights of most trees in our neighbourhood.
