Dhulqaad Hillas was Sighted in Zanzibar on 2nd December 2005 around 16:45 local Time (13:45 GMT),
I have been with my family and a friend of mine who later joined us and he became very much fascinated with the exercise and he promised to join us in future.
I have sent the information on the sighting of Hilal to Wakfy Office as well as Mufti Office but I could not get in touch with Mufti office; however Wakfy Office confirmed that they observed the Hilal too on Friday, 2nd Dec.

Muhammad Afifi al-Akiti (MCW member) from Oxford, UK: Not Seen
Negative sighting. At the end of the 29th day of of the preceeding lunar month (Friday, 2nd December) at the usual moonsighting site, I could not sight the new crescent. The horizon was overcast [ghaym] and it was raining. By the time of Isha', we receive news from Morocco that the new moon was sighted and that the authorities there have declared the new month [thubut al-hilal]. This news is sufficient for us to establish the Dhu l-Qa'dah month in the UK so that the next day, Saturday the 3rd of December, should be the first; instead of the 30th of Shawwal, by default, following the principal rule in Fiqh for this case: whenever the crescent is sighted during the night in question anywhere in the East, its sighting follows without doubt in the West, but not the other way round.

Ismail Ebrahim Omer (MCW member) from Lusaka, Zambia: Not Seen
The moon was not sighted in lusaka on Friday, 2 December due to clouds and rain but was sighted in South Africa. So, Saturday was 1st zil qada.

Rashid Motala (MCW member) from Durban, South Africa: Seen
The Hilaal for Dhul Qa'dah was sighted this evening, Friday, Dec 2. It was an easy sighting, many witnesses in Durban.

Dr Abdurrazak Ebrahim (MCW member) from Sea Point (Cape Town): Seen
The Dhul Qada [1426 AH] Hilaal was clearly visible by naked-eye from Sea Point, Cape Town, this Friday evening of the 2nd December 2005. I first observed the very thin crescent [cusps at 4 to 8 o’clock] through 10 x 50 binoculars at 10 minutes after observed local sunset. The crescent became visible to the naked-eye at 20h03 i.e., 18 minutes after local sunset. Venus had appeared at sunset. In Southern Africa the official first day of Dhul Qada will therefore correspond with Saturday, 3rd December 2005.

Ahmed Mohamed, (MCW member) from Windhoek, Namibia: Not Seen
We did not see the moon on Fri 2nd dec 2005 due to cloudy wheather in Windhoek Namibia, However we accepted cape town's verdict.

Muhammad Hafiz (MCW member) from Guyana reporetd: Not Seen
I tried to observe the Hilaal on the 1st and 2nd, December, 2005 after sunset in Rose Hall Town, Guyana. Due to the fact that the rainy season started a few days ago Hilaal observation was made impossible.

Javad Torabinejad (MCW member) from Blacksburg, VA: Seen
This evening (Friday Dec. 2), we sighted the moon in Blacksburg, VA. Immediately after sighting the moon through a pair of 7X50 binoculars, I was able to sight it by naked eye at 5:17 pm EST. The horns were on 2:00 and 5:30 o'clock. The sunset was at 5:04pm.

AbdurRahmaan Abu Abdullaah (MCW member) from Columbia, SC: Seen
On Friday, 02 December 2005, I observed the first hilāl of Thūl Qa³idah 1426 from 17:28 until 18:00 EST near Columbia, South Carolina, at Lake Murray on the Saluda Dam with an unobstructed view of the western horizon. The weather was chilly with 70% humidity. Although there were a few distant stratocumulus clouds north of my viewing area, south of an azimuth of 260° it was cloudless.
With a phase of only 2.7% and elongation of 17°, this hilal was much harder to spot than the hilāl of 1 Shawwal 1426 (on Nov. 3, 2005) which had a phase of 4.2% and an elongation of 23°. Sighting with the naked eye was possible, but without knowing exactly where to look, a novice probably would not have been able to spot it.
Sunset was at 17:15 EST. Sighted with Nikon OceanPro 7x50 7.2° CF WP compass binoculars at 17:28 EST. Sighted with Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D using 300 mm telephoto lens at 17:34 EST. Sighted with naked eye at 17:39 EST.

Ruth Jeffery (MCW member) from Houston, TX: Not Seen
Skies were completely overcast in both in Houston and Tomball, Texas, preventing any chance of crescent sighting on Dec. 2, 2005.

Clay Chip Smith (MCW member) from Austin, TX: Seen
On Friday, December 2nd, sighting was tried, and more than 6 Muslims saw the Hilal. Sunset was at 5:30 PM. We tracked the Hilal till it went behind the trees at 6:05 PM.

Gary Peterson (MCW member) from Tempe, Arizona: Not Seen
I looked for the moon tonight but it seems there were too many clouds. These was a break which I looked at around 5:50 PM MST but it seems the break was too far south in the sky and to the left of where the moon should have been. The new moon tonight should have been easier than the old moon I saw Wednesday morning. Both had the same lag times but since new moon occurred at 8:01 AM MST yesterday that would have made the moon a eight hours bigger tonight than Wednesday morning.

Paul Burnham (MCW member) from Chino Valley, Arizona: Seen
I am happy to say that the new moon was observed from Chino Valley, Arizona this evening of December 2, 2005. Initial sighting was with binoculars through a hole in the clouds at 1743 MST, lasting to 1745 MST. The arc was also clearly visible to the naked eye. A second similar sighting occurred between 1749 and 1750 as the arc passed a second hole. The curve appeared to extend from the 2 O'clock to the 6 O'clock position with approximately 1/3 to 1/2 the arc visible at any one time. Times are from WWV audio signals.

Gulamabbas A. Khakoo (MCW member) from Long Beach, California: Not Seen
Unable to sight the crescent for the month of Dhul al Qadh from Long Beach, California on Thursday, Dec. 1st and on Friday Dec 2nd 2005. Both days have been very cloudy and impossible to sight due to weather conditions being unfavorable with slight rain.

Dr. Youssef Ismail (MCW member), San Francisco, California: Not Seen
I am sorry to report that I was unable to sight the moon of Dhul-Qi'da 1426. I am ill with what appears to be a very harsh cold or the flu and was unable to go further than my front yard as I looked. The skies were 100% clear on the horizon, but I live too close to the western mountains of the Santa Clara Valley to have seen the moon above them. Insha Allah next month.

Abdul Sattar Ridhan (MCW member) from San Jose, California: Seen
