Jumada-al-Oola 1428 moon has been seen in Pakistan on Thursday, 17 May 2007. Therefore Friday, 18 May will be the first of the month. This was announced by the Central Ruyet-e-Hilal Committee.

On Thursday 17th May, 2007, I offically attended the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meeting at the Habib Bank Plaza building Karachi, as a representative of Pakistan Meteorological Department. I recieved report that the moon is sighted only from Two cities i.e Islamabad and Jehlum, while the report of "Not Sighted" from the 28 cities of Pakistan.

Positive sighting in Oxford UK. The Jumada al-Oola crescent was sighted at the end of the 29th day of Rabi' al-Akhir (Thursday, 17 May 2007). It was first sighted by us at 21:32. There were some clouds on the western horizon and the orientation of the crescent was
. This positive sighting means that the first day of Jumada al-Oola in the UK is tomorrow, Friday, the 18th of May.

No Hilal was visible tonight here at Abuja Federal Capital Teritory. Cloud might have been the reason why new Hilal was not visible. I have not gotten report from other posts within Nigeria.

This evening (Thursday, May 17, 2007), using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I sighted the moon at 8:33 in
Blacksburg, VA, followed by a naked eye sighting at 8:34 (actual sunset 8:24).
The western horizon was clear but hazy.

The hilal of Jamaad al-Ula was seen this evening at 8:15 pm PDT from my typical summer location, Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve. It was only a few minutes after sunset at an Azimuth of 280 degrees magnetic and at an altitude of about 6 finger widths above the horizon. The skies were clear. The limbs of the hilal were pointing up at 3 and 7 o'clock. Unfortunately, I was the only adult Muslim there, but I did have my three children moon-sighters in training with me and they all saw it as well.

The new lunar crescent was SEEN tonight, Thursday, May 17th, from Spokane, WA. I saw the thin crescent at 8:31pm, (PDT), approx. 25 degrees above the western horizon. Venus was bright, far above and to the left of the crescent.

The moon of Jamaadiyul Oulaa 1428 has been sighted on Friday, 18th May 2007 in Sydney and other state, therefore the moon-sighting committee of Australia and Majlis ul Ulamaa of Australia have declared that the month of Jumada-al-Oola will start from Saturday, 19th May 2007.
