Moonsighting for Sha'ban 1437
The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on May 6, 2016 (Friday) at 19:29. On May 6, it is possible but difficult to see the moon in Americas; the only possibility of easy sighting is in Hawwaii and Polynesian Island. On May 7, the moon can be seen easily in almost the whole world (See visibility curves).
The earliest reported sighting of the new crescent was on May 7, 2016 from Bali, Indonesia.

The Hilaal of SHA'BAAN has not been sighted anywhere in Australia, due to the age of moon at sunset time was not sufficient as well as most of the states being cloudy today. Therefore, the month of SHA'BAAN will commence from Monday, the 9th of May 2016.

Today, on Saturday 7th of May 2016, the crescent was NOT sighted at all in Sydney. I believe we couldn't see it because of 2 reasons
1)The weather was partly cloudy. 2) the age of the moon was too early to be seen; it was less 12 hours old.

On Saturday,7th May, 2016, the Crescent was clearly SEEN at approximately 6:30 p.m by many members of our Jama'at.
This means we had 29 days of Rajab. Insha'Allah the 1st of Sha'ban will be on Sunday 8th May, 2016.

On Saturday, May 7th, in Giza, Egypt, apparent sunset was around 18:36, I sought the Crescent to no avail about 10 minutes later, then I went off to Maghreb prayer. I resumed my attempt at 18:57, for another 15 minutes to no avail. The horizon appeared to be clear in the vicinity of 285° from geographic North, which was the expected lunar azimuth. T ~26°, P = 1014mb, Humidity ~ 29%. Visibility was apparently quite good.

The moon for Shaban was not seen in Garu, in the Upper East Region of Ghana on 7th May 2016. Sighting efforts were marred by partial cloudy weather.

Moon for Shaban not sighted here in Godhra, India today on 7th May,2016 (29th Rajab). Sky was almost clear. Crescent was not seen in other parts of the country. Most of moon committees including Delhi, Bhopal, Mumbai , Surat, Ahmedabad and Patna have declared that 1st Shaban would be on Moday, 9th May.

On May 7, Saturday, the Hilal for Shaban 1437 was SEEN by naked eye at Patra Beach, Ngurah Rai Airport area, Bali, Indonesia.
NUMBER OF PERSONS: One (myself). Although there were many people at the beach, no one could discern the very thin Hilal.
TIME OF SIGHTING: 18:24 to 18:27 local time UTC+8 on 7 May 2016.
CONDITIONS: Western horizon was cloudy but Alhamdulillah as it happens, there was a small crack in the clouds which was in the right position for the Hilal, and as such, the Hilal could only be observed while it was transiting from the top to the bottom of the crack. I took pictures of the Hilal with a manual pocket camera and look forward to process the images (it could not be discerned).

The Ifta authority of Libya in the capital Tripoli made an official announcement that today, Sunday 8 May 2016
is the first day of the month of Shaban 1437 H. In Libya West part we could not see the helal, as it was cloudy.

Alhamdulillah the New Moon of Shabaan 1437 has been sighted tonight Saturday 7 May 2016 in several localities in Mauritius. Earliest reported visibility was at 18hrs09. Sunset was at 17hr44 and Moonset was at 18hrs33. 1st Day of Shabaan will be on Sunday 8 May 2016. Shab-e-baraat (15th night Shabaan) will be celebrated on Saturday night 21 May 2016.

In a statement, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs of Morocco said that the observation of the new moon of the month of Shaaban 1437 AH, was confirmed in the evening of Saturday, 29 Rajab 1437 AH corresponding to 7 May 2016.
As consequence, 1 Shaaban 1437 corresponds to Sunday, May 8th, 2016.
But due to heavy clouds in Rabat, I was not able to sight the new crescent of Shaaban.

Today Saturday 29th of Rajab 1437 (7/5/2016) evening,the New Moon of Shaban was not sighted in Sri Lanka, Hence The Colombo Grand Mosque Hilall Committee announced to the Muslim community of Sri Lanka to complete the month Rajab with 30 days and start the month of Sha'ban on Monday 9th. May 2016 "In Sha Allah".

Today 7-5-2016AD=29-7-1437AH is the sighting day for the month of Shaban. I was in Mullaitivu N.east of Srilanka. The co-ordination of the location is Lat;9deg18' Lon:80deg48'. Sun set:6.18pm. Moon set:7.01pm. The parameters are Lag=43minutes; R.Azimuth=-03deg07'; Altitude=08deg54';
Elongation=10deg18'. The prediction of the astronomers was Naked eye sighting will be possible by an experienced observer if the atmospheric conditions are favorable for sighting.
The crescent was not sighted in any parts of Srilanka due to unfavorable weather conditions.I organized a sighting group at a place called "panivayal", Depo Road, Mullaitivu. I was there with Moulavi Fareed,Moulavi Adil and Moulavi Mujeeb.We also could not sight it due to unfavorable weather conditions. Hence it was decided to end the proceeding month 30day's and to start the month of Shaban on 9-5-2016 by the president C.G.M.H.C. M.Riyadh (Baari) along with A.C.J.U.and M.R.C.A.
The day for "Nisfu Shaban" will fall on 23-5-2016 and the sighting day for the month of Ramadan will fall on Monday 6-6-2016.

Hilal was not sighted in tiny island of Zanzibar on Saturday 7, 2016 due to heavy clouds, however we have received reliable news from our neighbors in Dar-es-Salaam and Ukerewe positive sighting and Mufty Office declared 1st of Shaaban will therefore be Sunday 8 May 2016.

At 6:30 pm immediately after the Maghrib Salaah on Saturday 07, May 2016, myself and a group of brothers stood in front the Masjid (South Trinidad) and saw the the crescent being at 3:00 O'clock to 7:00 O' clock. May Allah bless us in this month of Shabaan and spare our lives to reach Ramadhaan Insha Allah.

This evening (Saturday, May 07), the crescent moon was sighted in the Town of Blacksburg, VA (Lat: 37° 15' 40" N, Lng: 80° 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters). I arrived at my sighting location (the Blacksburg Middle School) before sunset (sunset: 8:17 pm EDT). Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I scanned the partly cloudy and hazy western horizon. My first binocular sighting was at 7:49 pm (about 28 minutes before sunset). Soon, the crescent disappeared behind the clouds. Later, a friend joined me to sight the moon. Our first naked eye sighting was almost an hour later than the initial optical aided sighting, when the moon reappeared in a clearing. The horns were approximately at 2:30 and 6:30 O'clock (2:30;4:30;6:30). We left the area prior to moonset when the moon set behind the clouds covering the lower part of the horizon (moonset: 6:25 pm). At 7:55 pm, the temperature, dew point, relative humidity, and pressure were 61.0 F, 58.1 F, 90%, and 29.79 in, respectively.

Today is 7th May, 2016. The sunset was at 7.59 PM at 294 degree WNW at the location Bronx ( 41 degree N and 74 degree W)
At the time of sunset, the crescent had an angle of elevation of 11 degree with 1.6% illumination and heading towards 282 degree WNW. The lag time was about an hour. I reached at the place of observation 15 minutes before sunset and searched for the crescent with a pair of binocular and bare eye. Finally I came to see the crescent with my bare eyes. Time of crescent observation : 8.10 PM; Humidity: 75 % and good visibility.
