Time: 05:32 am IST. The illumination was about 1.5%; the Altitude was 6° & horns were at 4 & 8 positions. Click on the photo to see full size.

The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on September 1, 2016 (Thursday) at 9:03 UT.

Remember, it is Solar Eclipse on that day. On September 1, the moon cannot be seen in most of the populated world. On September 2, 2016 (Friday), this moon can be seen with difficulty from Australia, Indonesia, South-East Asia, and Northern Africa; it can easily be seen in rest of Africa and all Americas on September 2, 2016 (See visibility curves).

Note the Solar eclipse on Thursday, September 1st, which reaches its peak @ ~9:08 UT.

Hajj is announced to be on Sunday, September 11 by Saudi Authorities.

September 3, 2016 (Saturday) is the 1st day of Dhul Hijjah 1437. The day of ‘Arafah – the main day of Hajj - is on Sunday, September 11, 2016 and the Eidul Adha 1437 is on September 12, 2016 (Monday).

Following its adopted current criteria for Eidul Adha, the Fiqh Council of North America follows the Hajj authorities' announcement of the day of ‘Arafah. Eidul Adha is on the day following the day of ‘Arafah. September 1, 2016 (Thursday):

    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Shabbir Ahmed, The president of Al- Tadhkeer Society, Sydney, NSW reported: The Hilaal of Dhul Hajj has been sighted in Adailade and Perth on Sep 2 (Friday). Therefore, the month of Dhul Hajj will commence from Saturday,the 3rd of September 2016. EID UL ADHAA WILL BE ON MONDAY 12th SEPTEMBER.

    2. Seen: MCW member Engr Manzoor A Mian from Melbourne, VIC reported: Although, we were unable to sight in Melbourne due to cloud, the crescent was sighted in Adelaide this evening, therefore the 1st day of Dhul Hijja 1437 is Saturday the 3rd of September, 2016. Eid ul-Adha is on Monday the 12th of September, 2016.

  • Barbados:

    1. Seen in Neighboring Country: MCW member Mr Mohammed Patel from Bridgetown reported: Mohammed Patel reporting from Jama Masjid in Bridgetown, Barbados for today, Friday 2nd September, 2016. Crescent not visible locally due to overcast conditions but SEEN in neighboring country of Trinidad. Insha'Allah the 1st of Dhul-Hijjah will be on Saturday 3rd September, 2016.

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Fazal Mahmood from Corriverton, Berbice reported: The moon was sighted across Guyana on Sep 2 (Friday). The Central moon sighting Committee of Guyana announced Saturday 3rd September 2016 will be the first of Dhul hijja. Eid Ul Adha will be on the 12th September 2016.

  • India:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Yusuf Idara from New Delhi reported: Today, Friday 02-September-2016 = 29-Dhu al-Qa‘dah-1437 Hijri, the moon of Dhu al-hijjah 1437 hijri was not seen. I & my friends tried to see the moon at my home from 06:40 pm to 07:05 pm. It was not sighted because Horizon was too cloudy. Eid-al-Adha would be on September 13, 2016 (Tuesday)

  • Indonesia:

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Ahmad I. Adjie from Bandung reported: SEEN BY NAKED EYE in Turen, East Java and many places : The HILAL for Dzulhijjah 1437 was SEEN by myself and three apprentice sighters (brothers Henry, Wasis and Nasir) in TUREN VILLAGE, East Java, between 17:42 and 17:52 local time (UTC +7). Sky had slight streaky hazy clouds combined with some dark grey heavy streaks but HILAL was still easily discernable, as only the Hilal was moving vertically down to the Horizon, whilst clouds went sideways. Horn orientations were 4 o'clock to 7 o'clock.

  • Mauritius:

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Nissar Ahmad Ramtoola from Port Louis reported: The new moon of Zil Hajj has been sighted in Mauritius on Friday 2 September 2016 @ 18.25pm at Piton. Other region were mostly cloudy. Sunset was at 18.02 and Moonset at 19.00hrs Hence 1st day of Zil hajj will be on Saturday 3 September 2016 and Eid Ul Adha will be celebrated on Monday 12 September 2016

  • Nigeria:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Jinadu Yunusa from Kishi, Oyo State reported: I and my people didn't make effort to sight for the new crescent of Dhul Hijja today 02/09/16 [1437\11\30] due to Bad Weather conditions- Thick Clouds, humidity 83% Dew point 73• and Pressure 29.81 IN.

  • Pakistan:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Asif Husain from Hyderabad reported: Government officials announced on media that cresent not sighted on today 29 zil Qadah, 1437 Hijrah, Friday 2nd September 2016. Therefore first of ZilHajj will be on Sunday, 4th of September 2016 and Eid Ul Adha will be on Tuesday, 13th September 2016 inshaALLAH.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Ismail Dehwar from Balochistan reported: Locally in Pringabad Balochistan Pakistan DHUL HIJJAH moon was not sighted. It is now 11:20 pm PST and too much late just for collecting reports from all resources, all over the country moon was not sighted and the Central Rawait-e-Hillal Committee of Pakistan also announced that in any part of the country moon was not sighted. Thus Eid-ul-Azha will be on 13th September 2016.

  • Peru:

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Muhammad Shaiman Shafiq from Arequipa, Peru reported: I am giving the witness of moon sighting for the month of Zil Hajj 1437 AH by reciting the Kalima e Tayyaba according to the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad e Mustafa (Sallallahu Alaihi Walaihi Wassllam). The moon of Zil hijjaj 1437 AH, was seen after maghrib today on september 02, 2016 (Friday) at 18:04 here in Arequipa, PERU (South America).

  • South Africa:

    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Abdurrazak Ebrahim from Cape Town reported: The Dhul Hijjah Hilaal was sighted in various parts of Southern Africa this Friday evening, the 2nd Sep 2016. Eid-ul Adha shall be observed on Monday, 12 September.

  • Spain:

    1. Not seen & announced: MCW member Mr Gabriel Jairodín Riaza from Madrid reported: Islamic Commission of Spain, announces that Saturday, 3 September, is the first day of the month of Dhu'l-Hijjah 1437. Sunday, 11 September, is Arafah Day, and Eid ul-Adha is Monday, 12 September 2016.

  • Sri Lanka:

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Nular Bary from Colombo reported: Today 29th.of Dhul-Qidah 1437 AH (02/08/2016) evening the Colombo western sky was cloudy, couldn't see the (Hilall) Moon of Dhul Hijjah in Colombo The Colombo Grand Mosque Hilall committee received some positive sighting from Kinniya north east city of Sri Lanka.Hence the committee decided to start Month of Dhul Hijjah 1437, tomorrow 3rd September 2016. "In Sha Allah" Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on Monday 12th September 2016.

    2. Seen: MCW member Mr Abdurrrahman Razeen from Colombo reported: Today 2-9-2016AD=29-11-1437AH is the sighting day for the month of Dhul-Hijjah. I was in Pottuvil to arrange a sighting group. This area is situated in eastern province of Srilanka. The co-ordinates of Pottuvil is lat=6deg 53' N Long=81deg 53' E. I arranged a sighting group at a place called "Kalappukattu Bushra Mosque" which is very close to Sabeelurrashad Arabic College. I was associated by Moulavi Abdul Hai and Moulavi Najmuddeen (Humaidy). We were their 20 minutes before the Sunset. The horizon was cloudy. The parameters are(at Pottuvil) Sun set:6.10pm. Moon set:7:06pm. Lag=46minutes The prediction of the astronomers=Easily visible by naked eyes. The crescent was not sighted at Pottuvil But it was sighted At Kinniya by Faizal moulavi (Rahmani) and his group. Based on his sighting Testimony it was decided to complete the proceeding month as 29 days and to start the month of Dhul-Hijjah on 3-9-2016 by the president C.G.M.H.C. M.Riyadh (Baari) along with A.C.J.U.and M.R.C.A.

  • Tanzania:

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Hamza Rijal from Tiny Island of Zanzibar reported: Dhul Hijjah Hilaal was sighted in tiny Island of Zanzibar this Friday evening 2nd September 2016 and the end of 29 Dhul Qada 1437 and the official 1st day of Dhul Hijjah in Zanzibar will correspond with Saturday the 3rd September, 2016.
      In Unguja in most of the places was cloudy and therefore the crescent could not sighted, Hilal has been observed in Wete, Pemba sister Island of main Island Unguja and its being confirmed by the Mufty Office.

  • Trinidad and Tobago:

    1. Seen: MCW member Umar Abdullah from Bon Accord, Tobago reported: The crescent moon to commence the month of Dhul Hijjah 1437 AH was looked for after the sunset of Friday 2th September 2016. Reports from all committees locally and regional confirm that the moon was SIGHTED. We have accepted these reports and declared that the the first day of Dhul Hijjah 1437 AH will be Saturday 3th September 2016.

    2. Seen: MCW member Mr Ishmael Khan from Princes Town, Trinidad reported: The new moon for the month of Dhul Hijah 1437 was sighted with other brothers at Maghrib on Friday 2nd September 2016 just outside the Masjid. The crescent was from 3 O'clock to 8 O'clock. The night of Friday 2nd September 2016 and Saturday 3rd September is the 1st of Dhul Hijah 1437. May Allah accept all our intentions and efforts in this beautiful month.

  • USA:

    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg VA reported: This evening (Friday, Sep 02), the crescent moon was sighted in the Town of Blacksburg, VA (Lat: 37° 15' 40" N, Lng: 80° 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters). I arrived at my sighting location (the Blacksburg Middle School) at sunset (sunset: 7:48 pm EDT). Except for a small portion of the lower part of the horizon, the sky was cloudy due to the tropical storm Hermine. Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I sighted the crescent at 8:07 pm when it appeared in a partial clearing covered by a very thin cloud. After a few minutes, at 8:13 pm, the crescent was in another clearing where naked eye sighting was possible. A friend joined me at this time. The horns were approximately at 2:00 and 6:00 O'clock (2:00;4:00;6:00). Through binocular only, we could see Jupiter very close to the right side of the crescent. At 8:26 pm, Venus was visible through the clouds to the upper left side of the crescent. At 8:30 pm, the crescent set behind a piece of cloud very close to the top of a distant mountain (moonset 8:37 pm). At 8:15 pm, the temperature, dew point, relative humidity, and pressure were 65.5 F, 59.9 F, 82%, and 30.10 in, respectively.

    2. Seen: MCW member Mr Mirza Shahid Basravi from Irvine CA reported: I saw the New Moon, today, Sept 02, 2016, in Irvine, Ca, at 7:07 pm. The sunset in Irvine was at 7:17 pm I first sat the crescent with my 10 x 50 binoculars, and then with my regular glasses. The tips of the crescent were pointing towards 2 O'Clock and 6 O'Clock.

    3. Seen: MCW member Mr Al Aminour Rashid from Houston TX reported: On 2nd spetember 2016. Dhul hajj moon was seen from Houston, TX.

    4. Seen: The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America reported: Saturday, September 3rd, 2016, will be the first day of the month of Dhil Hajjah, 1437 A.H. for the entire region of the United States and southern parts of Canada. Based on this announcement, the Day of ‘Arafa will be Sunday, September 11, 2016. The Day of Eid al-Adha will be Monday, September 12, 2016. This determination is based on the fact that there were reported sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye during the sunset of Friday, September 2nd, from many locations.

    5. Seen: MCW member Mr Khalil Homafar from Houston TX reported: On Friday September 2nd , the Dhul-Hijja Crescent has been sighted by me and a few members of our community in Houston Texas at 8:00 pm. The sky was partly cloudy. The crescent horn in clockwise direction was from almost 1 to 8 . Saturday is the 1st of Dhul-Hijja.

  • Zambia:

    1. Seen: MCW member Moulana Imtiyaz Husain Misbahi Azhari Imam of Masjid Noor-e-Muhammadi Lusaka reported: I would like to inform you that I with many other brothers sighted the new moon of the month of Dhul Hijjah on Friday 2 September So Saturday 3 September would be 1 Dhul-Hijjah.
