Al urjoonul qadeem of Jumada-at-Thani 1442: February 11 & February 10, 2021

MCW member Muhammad Said Abubakar from Mombasa Kenya reported: I saw the urjoonul qadeem of Jumada-at-Thani 1442 in the Morning of Wednesday February 10, 2021.

MCW member Mohammed Hussain from Palayamkottai Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India reported: I have enclosed the photo of Urjoonul Qadeem like Waning Crescemt moon taken today Wednesday 10th February 2021 (28th of Jamadhil Aakhir 1442) taken by me from Latitude 8�43'36.8"N and Longitude 77�45'23.0"E; Time 5:55 am IST; The Illumination was about 3.5 %; The Altitude was about 5� and horns were at 5 & 11 O'Clock.

New Crescent Moon of Rajab 1442:
The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on February 11, 2021 (Thursday) at 19:08 UT.
On February 11, , the moon can not be seen anywhere in the world. On February 12, the moon can be seen in Africa and Americas. On February 13, it can be easily seen in the whole world (See visibility curves).

The earliest reported sighting of the new crescent was on Friday, Feb 12 from Kapad Beach, Kozhikode Kerala, India

February 12, 2021 (Friday):

  • Australia:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Falcon Raja, from Sydney, NSW reported: To day in Auburn Sydney NSW Australia it was cloudy. It started raining in the evening. I tried to watch the hill from 8Pm-8:30Pm Friday 12 February 2021. Due to clouds was unable to watch the Hilal.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Shabbir Ahmed, President of Qubaa association of Western Sydney, NSW reported: Today (Friday) 12th of February 2021, the Hilal of RAJAB 1442 has not been sighted anywhere in Australia. Therefore, the month of RAJAB 1442 will begin from Sunday, 14th February 2021.

    3. Not Seen: MCW member Abul Qasim Rizvi, Imam Juma Melbourne reported: Crescent of the month of Rajab al Murajjab 1442 AH has not been sighted anywhere in Australia on Feb 12, 2021. In�Sha�Allah Saturday 13th February 2021 will be 30th Jamadi Ul Thani 1442 AH. In�Sha�Allah Sunday 14th February 2021 will be the first of Rajab Al Murajjab 1442 AH.

  • Barbados:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mohammed Patel from Bridgetown reported: On Friday 12th February 2021, the Crescent is SEEN. Therefore we had 29 days of Jumada-at-thani. The first day of Rajab will be on Saturday 13th February 2021.

  • Canada:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Muneeb Siddqui from Milton, Ontario reported: The Moon for Rajab 1442 could not be seen in Milton, Ontario, Canada today (Friday, 12th February, 2021) due to heavy clouds being present.

  • Chile:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Muhammad Sohail from Coquimbo reported: On Feb 12, Friday, in Coquimbo the city of Chile new moon is not sighted allthough they sky was quite clear.

  • Egypt:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Hisham M. Hamed from Cairo reported: This afternoon, Friday, Feb 12th, 2021, visibility was generally good. Apparent sunset was at 17:41. I started my observation attempt right after Maghrib prayers, i.e. at ~17:58, accompanied by a friend. The Moon was about 4.4� above the horizon, but neither of us could see it. Best time was ~18:01. The illuminated fraction of the Moon was: 0.008965 i.e 0.896536% < 1%. The crescent width was only 16.547 arcseconds, and I was not surprised that the Hilal did not appear. We gave up at about 18:15.

    1. Seen: MCW member Rasheed Usman, from Kozhikode, Kerala reported: Hilal of Rajab 1442 AH has been sighted at Kapad Beach, Kozhikode Kerala today 12.02.2021 Friday evening as confirmed by Khazi of Kapad. All the Qazis of the State made the declaration accordingly.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Zaid Duch from GUJARAT, INDIA reported: On Friday, 12th of February 2021 (29 Jumada Al Aakhar, 1442) between 18:15 to 19:10 (Sunset 18:33 & Moonset 17:09) at Location: Navi Masjid, Nadiad, Gujarat, India; we group of 4 people attempted to sight the crescent moon (Hilal) of Rabiul Awwal. We were not able to sight the Hilal, the western horizon was mostly covered with clouds.

  • Indonesia:


    1. Seen by telescope: MCW member AR Sugeng Riyadi from Rowasiya Observatory Central Java Indonesia reported: The new crescent of Rajab 1442 AH was not seen from Assalaam Observatory, Surakarta on Friday, 12 February 2021 because the sky was rainy. However, it was sighted by telescope from Pelabuhanratu West Java Indonesia. The 1st of Rajab 1442 AH will start on Saturday, 13 February 2021.

  • Kenya:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Muhammad A Said from Mombasa reported: Friday 12th of February 2021/29th Jumada al-thani 1442. The weather was cloudy. I was not able to see the crescent for Rajab.

  • Mauritius:


    1. Seen: MCW member Nissar Ahmad Ramtoola from Port Louis reported: The New Moon has been sighted at Flic en Flac in Mauritius on Friday night 12 February 2021 @ 7.08PM thus signifying that Saturday 13 February 2021 is the 1st day of Rajab 1442. Sky was partly cloudy. Mairaj (27th night Rajab) will be celebrated on Wednesday night 10 March 2021.

  • Nigeria:


    1. Seen: MCW member Oyeyemi Oyewo, Ilorin, Kwara State reported: The supreme council for islamic affairs announced that new crescent of Rojab were sighted in most parts of Nigeria yesterday. Today 13th February 2021 is 1st Rojab 1442.

  • New Zealand:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Abid Jafery from Auckland reported: Sun 14 Feb 2021, will be the 1st of Rajab 1442 Hijri InshaAllah based NO reported sightings from anywhere in NZ and Fiji on Fri 12 Feb 2021 (29 Jamadi AlThani).

  • Pakistan:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Shoaib Saleem from Tarbela Dam reported: As per announcement of Central Rouet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan, Today (Friday) 12th of February 2021, the Hilal of RAJAB 1442 has not been sighted anywhere in Pakistan. Therefore, the month of RAJAB 1442 will begin from Sunday, 14th February 2021.

  • South Africa:


    1. Seen: MCW member Rashid Motala from Durban reported: On the evening of Friday 12 February 2021, the Hilaal WAS sighted in South Africa. Therefore Rajab 1442 will commence on Saturday, 13 February 2021 in South Africa.

  • Tanzania:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Hamza Rijal from Tiny Island of Zanzibar reported: For Rajab 1442 AH, Hilal was not sighted in tiny Island of Zanzibar on the evening of 12th February 2021, therefore the official first day of Rajab will correspond with Sunday 14th February 2021.

  • Trinidad and Tobago:


    1. Seen: MCW member Umar Abdullah from Bon Accord, Tobago reported: Today, Friday, 12th February 2021, after sunset we looked for the new moon of Rajab 1442 AH. The moon was SIGHTED. Therefore the month of Jumada al-?Awwal, 1442 has completed 29 days. Hence the 1st night of Rajab 1442 would be the night of Friday 12th February 2021 and the first day of Rajab 1442 would be Saturday 13th February 2021.

  • UK:


    1. Seen at other places: Wifaqul Ulama Administrator of Britain reported: The Hilaal for Rajab 1442 was not sighted anywhere in United Kingdom. However, the Hilaal for Rajab 1442 was sighted in Morocco and South Africa. Wifaqul Ulama Shura have therefore decided that the month of Rajab 1442 has begun.The first day will be Saturday, the 13th of February 2021.

  • USA:


    1. Seen: Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announced: The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Saturday, February 13th, 2021 will be the first day of the month of Rajab, 1442 A.H. for the entire region of North America.
      This determination is based on the fact that there were verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Friday, February 12th, 2021 in Ottawa, Canada and Orlando, Florida.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg VA reported: This evening (Friday, Feb 12, 2021), the crescent moon was not seen in Blacksburg, VA (Lat: 37� 15' 40" N, Lng: 80� 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters). I arrived at my sighting location around sunset (sunset 5:59 pm EST). The sky was overcast and thus no way to sight the crescent. I left the area shortly (moonset: 6:58 pm).

    3. Seen: Husaini Islamic Center from Orlando, FL reported: The Moon-sighting Sub-committee wishes to inform the community that the new crescent for Mahe Rajab was sighted in Orlando, FL as well as in other cities on Friday, February 12, 2021. Thus SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2021 is established as the 1st Day of Mahe Rajab, 1442 AH.

    4. Seen: Mr Joynal Abedin from Buffalow, NY reported: On the evening of Friday 12th February, the month of rajab Moon was sighted. Sunset time was 5:45pm and moon set 6:40 pm and moon altitude 0.56 moon direction 251.27wsw. I was went galleria drive Mall roof top parking area it�s not clear first time, I waited there more than 30 minutes after see the moon naked eyes.



    5. Seen: MCW member Mirza Shahid Basravi from Irvine CA reported: Today, sunset in Irvine, CA was at 5:33 pm. I first sighted the Rajab 1442 new moon with my 7 x 35 Bushnell Binoculars at 5:43 pm, Then saw it with my regular glasses ay 5:44, and with bare eyes at 5:47 pm. The attached picture was taken at 6:04 pm. This was an easy sighting. My wife was also present with me for the sighting. Click on the photo on right to see full size.

    6. Seen: Waris Deen Muhammed Community-Imam AbdulHakeem Nabeeh Um'Rani reported: Naked Eye Moon Sighting - Continental USA on February 12th, 2021 by multiple members across the USA (coast to coast, border to border). The 1st day of Rajab 1442(2021) is February 13th, 2021. Amin!

Seen: MCW member Zaid Duch from Nadiad, Gujrat reported: I, Zaid Duch, sighted the crescent moon (Hilal) of 1st day of Rajjab 1442; today on Saturday, 13th of February 2021 (29 Jumada Al Aakhar 1442); at location Navi Masjid,Nadiad,Gujarat, India.
