New Crescent Moon of Ramadan 1444:
The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on March 21, 2023 (Tuesday) at 17:23 UT.
On March 21, the moon can not be seen any where in the world. On March 22, the moon can be seen with difficulty in Far-East and parts of Europe, but can be seen easily in Africa and Americas. On March 23, it can be seen easily in the whole world (See visibility curves).

The earliest reported sighting of the new crescent was on March 22, Wednesday from Nigeria.

  • Libya:

Not Seen on March 21: MCW member Dr Nuri Alfasi from Tripoli reported: The Mufti at the Ifta authority of Libya in the capital Tripoli had made an official announcement and declaration on Wednesday 21 March saying that moon crescent was not seen in Libya, in addition he said based on the scientific facts, moon crescent visibility in Libya on this day is impossible and any declaration of seeing moon crescent should be rejected. Therefore Thursday 23 March is the first day of Ramadan 1444 H

    1. Not Seen on March 21: Mahdavia Rui�yat e Hilal in North America announced: Hilal of Ramzan was NOT Sighted at anyplace in Mainland USA on the 29th of Shaban (Tuesday, March 21, 2023). As such Shaban will complete 30 days and the First day of Ramzan ul Mubarak 1444H will be on Thursday, March 23, 2023 in USA.

    1. Seen: MCW member Ebu Xhunejd (Ledjo Hyka) from Tirana reported: We sighted the new moon 13 minutes after sunset with binoculars and later it was clearly sighted by naked eye. So, tomorrow is the first of Ramadan

Not Seen: MCW member Dr Shabbir Ahmed, President of Qubaa association of Western Sydney, NSW reported: Today (Wednesday) 22nd of March 2023, the Hilal of Ramadan 1444 has not been sighted anywhere in Australia. Therefore, we will complete the 30 days of Sha�baan and the month of Ramadan 1444 will begin from Friday, 24th of March 2023.

Therefore In�Sha�Allah Thursday 23rd March 2023 will be 30th Sha�ban 1444 Hijri. In�Sha�Allah 1st Ramadhan Ul Mubarak 1444 Hijri will be on Friday 24th March 2023. today Wednesday, 23rd March (29th Shaban) the sky was completely cloudy and the moon couldn�t be seen in Cologne�s horizon.

    3. Not Seen: MCW member Moussa Khalife from Sydney, NSW reported: Today is Wednesday 22nd of March 2023 the moon was not sighted in Sydney nsw Australia. So tomorrow Thursday 23rd of March 2023 is last day of Shaaban 1444H.

Seen: MCW member Mohammed Patel from Bridgetown reported: From Jama Masjid in Bridgetown, Barbados on Wednesday, March 22nd, 2023, it was reported that the Crescent is SEEN, at approximately 6:24 pm local time. Orientation is from 4 o'clock to 8 o'clock. Therefore, we had 29 days of Sha'ban. The 1st day of Ramadan will be on Thursday, 23rd March, 2023.

  • Canada:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member HiMY SYeD from Brampton, Ontario reported: Tonight The sky remained completely overcast as evening began. Nevertheless, I still went out to search for a possible clear patch of sky. Entire horizon remained cloudy. No Moonsighting attempt was possible.

  • Chile:


    1. Seen: MCW member Muhammad Sohail from Iquique reported: The new moon of Ramadan is sighted in Iquique north City of Chile. The sky was quite clear, so Ramadan will start on 23/03/2023.

  • Germany:


    1. Not Seen: Mr Mohammad Zahad from Cologne reported: Seeing Europe as one horizon and based on ruling by local sighting following is stated: If sighting in anywhere Europe is successful, then Thursday, 24th March will be 1st Ramadan. If the crescent moon is not seen today, then 1st of Ramadan will be on Friday, 25th March.

  • Ghana:

Seen: MCW member Malik Salifu Shaban from Garu Bawku reported: On March 22, the crescent for Ramadan 1444 (2023) could not be sighted here in Garu in the Upper East Region of Ghana due to heavy cloudy weather condition. However the Deputy Chief Imam of ASWAJ announced that Ramadan starts tomorrow 23th March 2023. Late reports indicate the crescent for Ramadan 1444 2023 was sighted at Bawku in the Upper East Region of Ghana.

  • Guyana:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mansoor Baksh from Demerara, Essequibo reported: The new moon for Ramadan 1444 was seen at Aurora, Essequibo Coast, Guyana this evening, Wednesday, March 22, 2023. by many members of Aurora Jama'at, on the Essequibo Coast including Bro. Moududi Ahmad and Bro. Sabir Jaleel.

Decision: MCW member Rasheed Usman, from Kozhikode, Kerala reported: The hilal of Ramadan 1444 has been sighted by 3 witnesses at Kapad Beach Kozhikode Kerala today Wednesday 22 March 2023 as confirmed by the Kapad Qazi Shihabudheen Faizi . Accordingly the Ramadan 1 will be Thursday 23'March 2023 in the State as declared by Qazis. Kerala Hilal Committee and Wisdom Islamic Organisation hilal wing also begin Ramadan tomorrow Thursday.

Decision: MCW member AR Sugeng Riyadi from Rowasiya Observatory Central Java Indonesia reported: The new crescent of Ramadhan 1445 AH was NOT SIGHTED on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from Assalaam Observatory, Pabelan Kartasura Sukoharjo Central Java Indonesia, the west sky was covered by thick clouds. The crescent was seen from several places in Indonesia via telescope. According to this report, on Ithbat Council by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia declare that 1 Ramadhan 1444 AH will start on Thursday, March 23rd, 2023.

  • Morocco:


    1. Seen: Mr Dawud Mitterhuber from Rabat reported: I could see the new crescent of Ramadan 1444. Today, 22.3.2023, after sunset in Rabat at 7:10 I could see the crescent, position of the horns 3 o'clock to 8 o'clock, the crescent was thin, but clear, the sky was very clear.

    2. Seen: MCW member Zakaria Guelzim from Rabat reported: This is to inform you that I sighted the Hilal of Ramadan after Maghrib of Wednesday, March 22nd,2023 in Rabat Morocco. The sun set was at 18:30 GMT and I sighted the Hilal at 19:04. The horns were from 3 to 7. The Hilal was sighted by several friends from most of the cities of Morocco. In its press release, the Ministry of Awkaf and Islamic Affairs indicates that it has observed the crescent moon of the blessed month of Ramadan, this Wednesday, March 22, 2023, after the Al-Maghrib prayer, specifying that "the Nadirs of the Kingdom and the units of the Royal Armed Forces associated with the observation have confirmed the observation of the lunar crescent announcing the holy month of Ramadan�.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Wasiu Akewusola from Agege, Lagos reported: The crescent of Ramadan 1444AH could not be Sighted in Alausa-Ikeja Lagos Nigeria tonight Wednesday 22nd March, 2023. Although the cloud was not too clear. However, the Islamic Council in Nigeria Has already declared 23rd March, 2023 as 1st of Ramadan.

  • Oman:


    1. Seen: MCW member Sulaiman Al Salmi from Muscat reported: Oman has announced sighting the moon today 22/3/2023 and that tomorrow 23/3/2023 is the first of Ramadan 1444.

  • Pakistan:


    1. Seen: MCW member Umair Mirza, Lahore reported: On Thursday, 22 March 2023 at the end of civil twilight (18:39), at Lahore, Pakistan, sky is completely cloudy and it is raining; no attempt of sighting of Ramadan's new moon could have been made. However, Central Moon Sighting Committee, Government of Pakistan announced that 1st Ramadan 1444 will be observed from 23 March 2023. The Crescent of Ramadan sighted from the Baluchistan Province, especially Gwadar, Pasni, Jiwani, Makran region. Also Moon sighted in Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, cities of Punjab. There was Cloudy weather in Mostly parts of KPK (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) and Northern Areas. Moon not sighted in Northern Cities Pakistan, because the altitude and elongation were not favorable. Many Muslims were able to see the moon in many cities of Baluchistan. In late night, nearly 22:15, Central Moon sighting Committee announced that the Moon was sighted on March 22 in Baluchistan.

    2. Decision: Siraj Khwaja from Lahore reported: Moon has been sighted in Pakistan. Central moon sighting committee, Government of Pakistan announced that 1st Ramdhan 1444 will be on 23 March 2023.

    3. Decision: MCW member Dr Ismail Dehwar from Balochistan reported: Today on 22nd March 2023 Tuesday the Ramdan 1444 moon was not sighted locally here in Pringabad, Balochistan Pakistan. Horizon was cloudy during moon sighting time. Moreover, the Central Ruit-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan held a meeting in Peshawar KPK Province, announced that across the country Ramdan moon was sighted, therefore 1st Ramdan 1444 will be on Thursday, 23th March 2023.

  • Saudi Arabia:


    1. Seen: MCW member Abdul Kadir Mulla from Jeddah reported: Ramadan Moon was sighted in Jeddah KSA on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. Sky was also clear.

  • South Africa:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Rashid Motala from Durban reported: On the evening of Wednesday 22 March 2023, the Hilaal was NOT sighted in South Africa. Therefore Ramadaan 1444 will commence on Friday, 24 March 2023 in South Africa.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Keeka, Mohamed Iqbal, Pretoria reported: The Hilaal for Ramadaan 1444 was NOT sighted in South Africa tonight, Wednesday 22nd March 2023. The month of Ramadaan 1444 will thus begin in South Africa after Maghrib on Thursday, 23rd March 2023.

    1. Seen: Sherally Hussein Sherally from Zanzibar reported: There has been a report from the Islands of Zanzibar, that Ramadhaan New Crescent has been sighted on March 22 Wednesday. Also the Mufti of Tanzania Mainland has announced that the New Crescent has been sighted in SINGIDA REGION, which lies at the Central Province in Tanzania. Therefore, Tomorrow, Thursday 23 March 2023 will ba the First day of Ramadhaan Fast.

  • Turkey:


    1. Seen: MCW member Muhammed Cevad Turan from Istanbul reported: Due to weather condition it was impossible to observe any object, even sun wasn't visible all day. However, 2 observers, we wen't 100km out of the city to stay away city light pollution and weather. Unfortunately we couldn't see the new crescent ?? of Ramadan, from Istanbul area. Even we were fully equipped with telescopes too, but didnt have chance to use. Yet, Presidency of Religious Affairs officially declerated that 1st of Ramadan will start at 23th of March, based on calculations.

  • UK:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mohammad Ramtoola from Preston reported: Moon sighted by naked eye in multiple locations in the UK- Cambridge, London, Scarborough, Dundee and other places. Not seen in Manchester and Lancashire due to cloud cover. Tonight is the 1st of Ramadan 1444 and Thursday will be the first day of Fasting.

    2. Seen: MCW member Juned Patel from Bolton Lancshire reported: The crescent moon of Ramadan 1444 in UK is seen, on the evening of the 22nd of March 2023. I, Juned Patel from Bolton along with Maulana Hanif Dudhwala left home in search of a clear sky at 5am and ended at Filey. I first spotted this crescent moon with binoculars at 18:26 and then with the naked eye at 18:45.

  • Ukraine:


    1. Seen: MCW member Lenur Chaush from Kiev reported: Today 22.03.2023 (29 Shaban 1444) me and some other members of our Moonsighting Commitee went out of Kiev city for sighting the new moon of Ramadan and Alhamdulillah after 30 minutes from Magrib we saw the new moon on the horizon just with naked eyes. So, tomorrow 23.03 is the first day of Ramadan.

This determination is based on the fact that there were verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Wednesday, March 22nd, 2023 in many locations.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Joynal Abedin from Buffalo NY reported: The Ramadan moon wasn�t sighted at BUFFALO NY , the sky was totally cloudy March 22nd 2023. Sunset today 7:29 pm and moon altitude -1.89� Moonset 8:52 pm (279) I waited almost 1 hours near moon sighting location at Hamburg area. Unfortunately I didn�t find anything. Our masjid community follow local moon sightings results, they�re waiting for nearest city local reports.

    3. Seen: Abdullah Shahab from Philadelphia reported: A number of us saw the sighting of the moon in Philadelphia with our naked eyes around 7:15 pm.

Campos-Marquetti from Albuquerque, New Mexico reported: On March 22 rom the MINARA Muslim Community the visual sighting was done with the naked eye for the Crescent Moon on March 22nd, 2023 at 8:23pm MST from Paradise Hills, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sky Conditions: Partly Cloudy, Temperature: 48 degrees F, Winds up to 14mph, Elevation: 5,315-feet Orientation of the crescent horns: 3 to 9 O�clock)

Not Seen: MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg VA reported: This evening (Wednesday, March 22, 2023), the crescent moon was not seen in Blacksburg, VA (Lat: 37� 15' 40" N, Lng: 80� 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters). The sky was cloudy. At 7:35 pm, the temperature, dew point, relative humidity, and pressure were 51.0 F, 46.0 F, 81%, and 30.26 in, respectively.
