New Crescent Moon of Jumada-at-Thania 1442:

The Astronomical New Moon is on Sunday March 30, 2014 at 18:44 UT. There is no possibility of moonsighting on that day. On March 31, the moon can be seen with difficulty in Europe and parts of Africa, but can easily be seen in Western Africa, and Americas. On Tuesday, April 1, the moon can be easily seen in the whole world (See visibility curves).

    1. SeenTy other: Neria Haroeh (MCW member) from Ramlah reported: The new moon was seen from Israel on March 31. I was not able to see the moon from Ramlah. We have just two reports of seeing the moon by nacked eye.
      The first by Yoel from Kiryat Ata who reported: "I sighted from the north of Israel near Kiryat Ata at 7:24pm with binoculars, and then at 7:25pm with the naked eye. It was very difficult to see, but fortunately I was also able to take photos.... The moon was visible till 7:36pm and then vanished in the haze."
      The second by Gidi from Keren BeYavneh who reported: "The new moon was seen from Israel. It was a hard seeing and all viewers but me were able to see the moon only with the aid of a telescope (70mm refractor). The crescent was very thin from 5-7 on a clock face and seen by the naked eye at 19:30 for few minutes until it faded."

      REMARKS: This evening 29th.Jumada-al-Oola 1435 31/03/2014 the Colombo western sky was clear but I couldn't trace the New moon of Jumada-al-Thania even with my binocular I was scanning the right of Sunset, till 6;55pm. our sunset was at 6;20pm today & Moonset at 6:55pm, 278�NW (right of Sunset) New Moon's age at the time of Sunset 17h,55m & Duration only 35mints at the western horizon.The Colombo Grand Mosque also didn't receive any positive sighting from any parts of Sri Lanka. So we'll start the month of Jumada-at-Thania 1435 on Wednesday the 2nd April 2014 "In Sha Allah"

      REMARKS: This evening (Monday, March 31, 2014), the crescent moon of the month of Jumada-at-Thania was sighted in Blacksburg, VA (Lat: 37� 15' 40" N, Lng: 80� 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters). I arrived at my sighting location (The Blacksburg Middle School) at 7:39 pm EST (sunset: 7:43 pm). The western horizon was partly cloudy and the atmospheric condition was hazy. Using a pair binoculars (7X50), I scanned the suspected area, just above the sun and slightly toward its left. At 7:44 pm, the crescent was sighted with the binoculars and at 7:59 pm with naked eye. It was high but very thin with the horns at 3:30 and 7:30 O'clock I left the site when the moon disappeared behind clouds prior to moonset (moonset: 8:58 pm). At 7:55 pm, the temperature, dew point, relative humidity, and pressure were 53.6 F, 30.2 F, 41%, and 30.12 in, respectively.

      REMARKS: Alhamdulillah my family (wife, three children) and I sighted by naked eye the new crescent moon of Jumada al Thani just outside our home in Richmond, Texas, USA on Monday, March 31, 2014 between 8:10pm and 8:20pm. After sighting the moon by eye, I took a couple of pictures to document the sighting.

    4. Seen: Ms. Ruth Jeffery (MCW member) from Bridge City TX reported: The new moon was sighted in Bridge City, Texas, at 7:54 p.m. by one adult on March 31. This was verified by a second adult at the same location within minutes, and two other adults also reported sighting in Converse, La., at approximately 8:00 p.m. The weather conditions were extremely cloudy with patches of clear sky. The horns of the crescent were pointing almost directly up (from 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock). All sightings were made with no optical aids.
