New Crescent Moon of Rajab 1438:

The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on March 28, 2017 (Tuesday) at 2:57 UT. On March 28, the moon can be seen with difficulty in South America and parts of North America; it can easily be seen on West coast states of USA. On March 29, 2017 (Wednesday) the moon can be easily seen in the whole world (See visibility curves).

The earliest reported sighting of the new crescent was on March 28, 2017 from Anaheim, CA, USA.

March 28, 2017 (Tuesday):

  • Barbados:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Mohammed Patel from Bridgetown reported: Mohammed Patel reporting from Jama Masjid in Bridgetown, Barbados for today, Tuesday 28th march, 2017. Crescent NOT SEEN.Clouds were on the horizon thus hindering visibility. We will therefore have 30 days of Jumada-at-Thania. Insha'Allah, the 1st of Rajab will be on Thursday 30th March, 2017.

  • Indonesia:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Ishaq Zunaedi from Tangerang Selatan, Banten reported: The crescent moon was not seen on Tuesday March 28, 2017.

  • Morocco:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Ehsan H. Hajar from Casablanca reported: On March 28, 2017 in Casablanca, even though most of sky was clear, the lower westerly horizon was obscured with thin layers of clouds coupled with high level of humidity creating a thick red mist up to 10 degrees above the SunSet spot @274* west. I have checked the Habous.Gov.ma web-sight, no declaration of sighting either. Assuming Jumada al-Thani might have to complete thirty days, unless otherwise seen from southern regions of Morocco later on.

  • South Africa:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Rashid Motala from Durban reported: On the evening of Tuesday 28th March 2017, the Hilaal was NOT sighted in South Africa. Therefore Rajab 1438 will commence on Thursday, 30th March 2017 in South Africa.

  • Tanzania:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Hamza Rijal from Tiny Island of Zanzibar reported: For Rajab 1438 Hijra, Hilal was not sighted in tiny Island of Zanzibar on the evening of 28 March 2017, therefore the official first day of Rajab will correspond with Thursday 30 March, 2017.

  • Trinidad and Tobago:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Umar Abdullah from Bon Accord, Tobago reported: The crescent moon to commence the month of Rajab 1438 AH was looked for after the sunset of Tuesday 28th March 2017. Location: lat: 10 35 long: 61 21: Time of Sunset: 18:08:22
      Reports from all committees locally and regionally, confirm that the moon was NOT SIGHTED. The month of Jumaadal Aakhirah 1438 AH will complete 30 days. Therefore, the 1st night of Rajab 1438 AH will be the night of Wednesday 29th March 2017 and the first day of Rajab 1438 AH will be the day of Thursday 30th March 2017.

  • USA:

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Mohammed Yahya Shaikh from Anaheim CA reported: Allhamdullilah the hilal for the month of Rajab 1438 was seen by naked eye at 7:32 PM PST on March 28th 2017 in Anaheim, CA. The moon should have been seen by many in the LA and OC basin.

    2. Seen: MCW member Mr Mohamedraza H.Janmohamed from Sanford FL reported: The Moon-sighting Sub-committee wishes to inform the community that based on the sighting of the new crescent in Phoenix, AZ as well as other cities in the USA at sunset on Tuesday, March 28, 2017. Therefore, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 29, 2017 is established as the 1st Day of Mahe Rajab, 1438 AH.

    3. Seen: Mr Muhammad H. Haadi from Tucson, AZ reported: Moon was sighted on March 28th at 7:20 pm here in Tucson, AZ by my mother and sister.

    4. Seen: Mr Shahnoor Syed from Bakersfield, CA reported: On behalf of Mahdavia Ruiyat e Hilal, I am reporting a positive Hilal Sighting report from Bakersfield, CA. Hilal was sighted by Mr. Syed Ateeq Mehdi with family after Maghrib on Tuesday, March 28, 2017.

March 29, 2017 (Wednesday):

  • Australia:

    1. Seen: MCW member Imam Abul Qasim Rizvi, Imam Juma Melbourne reported: On March 29, 2017, the crescent of Rajab al Murajjab was sighted by naked eye in Sydney. Inshallah tomorrow 30th march Thursday will be the First Rajab.

    2. Seen: MCW member Dr Shabbir Ahmed, President of Qubaa association of Western Sydney, NSW reported: Today is Wednesday, 29th of March. The Hilaal of RAJAB 1438 has been sighted in Sydney. The weather was very clear in Sydney and 15 minutes after the sunset we were able to sight the moon. Therefore, the month of RAJAB will commence from Thursday 30th of March 2017.

    3. Seen: MCW member Mr Moussa Khalife from Sydney, NSW reported: On March 29, 2017, our group has sighted the crescent in sydney Australia. We have seen it from 7:20 pm till 7:36 pm The weather was very clear and the crescent was very thin and quite high So tomorrow Thursday 30th of March will be 1st of Rajab 1438 in Australia.

    4. Seen: MCW member Mr Abbas Aly from Sydney NSW reported: On March 29, 2017, I Sighted Rajab Hilal in Dural, Sydney NSW at 7:13 pm in Azimuth direction of about 282 degrees.

  • Bosnia and Herzegovina:

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Ebul Hasan (Abdulah Shabar - from Visoko reported: DATE OF SIGHTING EFFORT: , 29 March 2017 SKY CONDITIONS: Skies were clear. TIME OF SIGHTING EFFORT: I saw the moon at 19:30 hrs. ORIENTATION OF CRESCENT HORNS: 3 O'clock to 7 O'clock:

  • Egypt:

    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Hisham M. Hamed from Cairo reported: I managed to see the crescent of Rajab, 1438, on Wed. 29th of March, clearly, @18:41, 29 minutes after apparent sunset (18:12). The Western Horizon was partly cloudy, but the crescent was clearly visible through a wide clearance in the clouds.

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Malik Salifu Shaban from Garu Bawku reported: The crescent for Rajab was seen today Wednesday 29th March in Garu in the Upper East Region of Ghana at 6:16 local time. sighting efort was started by me and five others from 18:00GMT.

  • India:

    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Sayyad Mohd Arshi from Dehradun reported: In Dehradun, 29th March 2017 is 29th Jamadi ul Aakhir 1438 I & my family tried to see the moon of Rajab at my home from 06:40 pm to 06:55 pm moon was easily sighted because Horizon is clear. 30th March 2017 (Thursday) will be the First day of Rajab 1438 hijri in Dehradun

    2. Seen: MCW member Mr Molvi Iqbalhusen Bokda from Godhra, Gujrat reported: Moon for Rajab, 1438 has easily been sighted here in Godhra and almost all parts of India today on 29th March, 2017. Sky was clear. Friends from different parts of the country have given positive sighting reports.

    3. Seen: MCW member Mr Yusuf Idara from New Delhi reported: Today Wednesday 29-March-2017 = 29-Jumad� al-akhirah-1438 Hijri. Today I & my nephew tried to see the moon at my home from 06:40 pm to 06:50 pm the moon was easily sighted Horizon was clear.

  • Nigeria:

    1. Seen: MCW member Engr Zaid Ibrahim from Surulere, Lagos State reported: I saw the hilal with my naked eye today 29/03/2017 at Satellite Town Lagos between the period of 7:00. p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and beyond. The weather is clear and bright. The orientation of the hilal is 3 to 9.

  • South Africa:

    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Abdurrazak Ebrahim from Cape Town reported: The Hilaal was sighted in many locations in Southern Africa this evening (29 Jamadith Thani 1438 H / 29 March 2017). The 1st Rajab 1438 H began at Maghrib this Wednesday evening, and would correspond with 30 March 2017

  • Sri Lanka:

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Abdurrrahman Razeen from Colombo reported: Today 29-03-2017CE=29-06-1438AH is the sighting day for the month of Rajab 1438AH in Srilanka. I was in Colombo Grand Mosque.It was raining in Colombo. The parameters are Sunset:6:21pm. Moonset:7:39pm. Lag=78minutes: The prediction of the astronomers=Crescent can be sighted easily. Hilaal sighting groups was arranged right round the country. Positive sighting reports was recieved to CGM Hilaal Committee from Jaffna,Kinniya,Kattankudy,Kalmunai,Batticoloa,and Pottuvil. Hence it was decided by the CGMH Committee which was presided by Moulana Riyadh (Baari) along with ACJU and MRCA to complete the proceeding month as 29 days and start the month of Rajab on 30-3-2017CE.

  • Trinidad and Tobago:

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Ishmael Khan from Princes Town, Trinidad reported: The moon was sighted in clear skies after the Maghrib Salaah. The horns of the crescent were 4:00 O'clock to 8:00 O'clock. This confirms that the night of Wednesday 29th March 2017 is the 1st night of Rajab 1438.

  • UK:

    1. Not Seen (Cloudy): MCW member Mr Modoris Ali from Birmingham reported: Yesterday (Tuesday 28 March 2017) and today (Wednesday 29 March 2017) the weather is overcast in the sky and was unable to see the moon.If the skies were clear, I would have carried the observation of the moon. Time:Tuesday 28 March 2017 at 7:33pm and Today (Wednesday 29 March 2017) at 7:30pm. It is estimated that Thursday 30 March 2017 as first Rajab in the UK based on own location moon sighting.

    2. Not Seen (Cloudy): MCW member Mrs Jamilah Amal from Liverpool reported: I was unable to sight the moon this evening (Wednesday 29th March) due to it being very cloudy. I observed the skies prior to the magrib prayer and for approximately 15 to 20 minutes afterward, where it became apparent that I would be unable to see it. If the sky would have been clear I would have expected to see it. Therefore the month of Rajab begins after completing 30 days of Jumada Al-Thani.

  • Zambia:

    1. Seen: MCW member Moulana Imtiyaz Husain Misbahi Azhari Imam of Masjid Noor-e-Muhammadi Lusaka reported: I Moulana imtiyaz misbahi with many other people sighted the moon of the month of Rajabul Murajjab in Lusaka Zambia So 1st Rajab would be on 30th march 2017 Inshallah
