New Crescent Moon of Sha'ban 1440:

The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on April 5, 2019 (Friday) at 8:50. On April 5, it is possible only by high powered telescope to see the moon in Americas and very small chance of sighting in Hawwaii and Polynesian Island. On April 6, the moon can be seen easily in almost the whole world except in Japan, New Zealand and Australia (See visibility curves).

The earliest reported sighting of the new crescent was on April 6, Saturday from many places all over Australia.

April 5, 2019 (Friday):

  • Canada:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Nuh ibn Zbigniew Gondek from Ottawa Ontario reported: Local Sunset time for Ottawa, Ontario, Canada for April 5 2019 was 7:36 pm EDT. Due to overcast skies this evening no moonsighting was possible with the unaided eye or binoculars. The local Moonset should have been by 7:56 pm EDT. Sighting location: Mud Lake (near Britannia water filtration plant). Temperature: 2�C.

  • India:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Rasheed Usman, Kozhikode, Kerala reported The hilal was not seen on 5th April Friday evening. We will complete Rajab 30 and start Sha'aban 1 on Sunday 7th April in Kerala, India. Many other States also follow the same.

  • Nigeria:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Oyeyemi Oyewo, Ilorin, Kwara State reported: I tried to sight for Shaban crescent today, April 5, around 6:50 pm till 7:15pm Nigeria local time. I can't sight the new crescent, the weather is clear.

  • Tanzania:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Hamza Rijal from Tiny Island of Zanzibar reported: The Hilal was NOT sighted anywhere in tiny island of Zanzibar-Tanzania on Friday 5th April, 2019, therefore the 1st day of Shaaban 1440 AH is Sunday the 7th of April, 2019.

  • Trinidad and Tobago:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Umar Abdullah from Bon Accord, Tobago reported: The crescent moon to commence the month of Sha'ban 1440 AH was looked for after the sunset of Friday 5th April 2019. Reports from all committees locally and regional confirm that the moon was NOT SIGHTED. Location: lat: 10:35 long: 61:21. Time of Sunset: 18:17:39.
      We have accepted these reports and has declared that the month of Rajab 1440 AH will complete 30 days. Therefore the 1st day of Sha'ban 1440 AH will be Sunday 7th April 2019.

  • UK:


    1. Not Seen: Wifaqul Ulama Administrator of Britain reported: Moon was not sighted anywhere Wifaqul Ulama have therefore decided that 30 days of Rajab will be completed and Shabaan 1440 will begin from Sunday, the 07th of April 2019.

  • USA:


    1. Not Seen: Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announced: The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Saturday, April 6th, 2019 will be the last day of the month of Rajab, 1440 A.H. and Sunday, April 7th, 2019, will be the first day of the month of Shaban, 1440 A.H. for the entire region of North America. This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Friday, April 5th, 2019 in any region of North America.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Mohamedraza H.Janmohamed from Sanford FL reported: The Moon-sighting Sub-committee wishes to inform the community that there was NO sighting of the new crescent on Friday, April 5, 2019. Therefore upon completion of 30 days, SUNDAY, APRIL 07, 2019 is established as the 1st Day of Mahe Sha�baan, 1440 AH.

April 6, 2019 (Saturday):

  • Afghanistan:

    1. Seen: MCW member Engr M Ibrahim Mayar from Kabul reported: Today ,Saturday April 6th 2019, Shaban Hilal was sighted with nicked eyes at 6:40 local time from Kabul city. The horns orientation was from 10:00 to 4:00 O'clock .

  • Australia:


    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Shabbir Ahmed, President of Qubaa association of Western Sydney, NSW reported: Today (Saturday) 6th of April 2019, the Hilal of Sha�baan 1440 has been sighted in Brisbane , Melbourne and Perth. Therefore, the month of Sha�baan 1440 will begin from Sunday, 7th of April 2019. Today, Saturday 6th of April, the sky was overcast most of the day. The Sun finally appeared after Asr prayers. The western horizon had cleared up by the time of apparent sunset (18:17 UTC+2).

  • Egypt:


    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Hisham M. Hamed from Cairo reported: I started my observation attempt just after Maghreb prayers, at ~18:37, from Pyramids' Rd, Giza . I couldn't make it to the office, and did not have access to my Camera. The Hilal of Sha'ban appeared at ~18:41. Visibility wasn't exactly good. The Hilal was faint, but still distinct. Temperature, pressure and humidity were 45�C, 1008mB, and 43% respectively.

  • India:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Yusuf Idara from New Delhi reported: Moon Sighting for the month of Sha�ban. Moon was sighted today, Saturday, April 6. Sunday, 7th April, will be 1st Sha�ban, 1440 Hijri.

  • New Zealand:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Abid Jafery from Auckland reported: There has been no reported sightings from anywhere in NZ and Fiji at Sunset of Sat 06 April 2019 (29 Rajab 1440 ) Mon 08 Apr 2019 will be 1st Shaban 1440 Hijri InshaAllah

  • Pakistan:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Hassan Saleem Khan from Rawalpindi reported: Moon was easily sighted on April 6, Saturday. Orientation: 2 O'clock to 8 O'clock.

    2. Seen: MCW member Mr Shoaib Saleem from Tarbela Dam reported: The new moon of Shaban 1440 seen today on 06th April 2019, in Pakistan. Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan also announced the sighting of moon.

  • Saudi Arabia:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Faisal Parekh from Riyadh reported: On Saturday, April 6, the moon was sighted. Sighting Location: near Sadus Cloudy on Horizon but moon was above the clouds

  • South Africa:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Rashid Motala from Durban reported: On the evening of Saturday 6th April 2019, the Hilaal WAS sighted in South Africa. Therefore Sha'baan 1440 will commence on Sunday, 7th April 2019 in South Africa.

  • Sri Lanka:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Nular Bary from Colombo reported: Today 29 Rajab 1439 (Saturday, April 6, 2019) evening the New Crescent Moon of Sha'ban 1440: was sighted in the country. Hence the Month of Sha'ban will start tomorrow Sunday 7th April 2019 in Sri Lanka "In Sha Allah"

  • Trinidad and Tobago:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Ishmael Khan from Princes Town, Trinidad reported: The crescent moon for Sha�baan was seen just after the Maghrib by several brothers. The crescent being from 4:00 O�clock to 8:00 O�clock. This confirms that the night of Saturday March 6th 2019 is the first night of Sha�baan and Sunday 7th March 2019 the first day of Sha�baan.

  • UK:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Hidayatullah Patel from Blackburn, Lancashire reported: Today 06/04/2019 me and two others saw the crescent with naked eye and with binoculars at around 20.30 - 20.40 on the outskirts of Blackburn, Lancashire, UK. Moon orientation roughly 1 to 7 o�clock.

  • USA:


    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg VA reported: This evening (Saturday, April 6, 2019), the crescent moon was sighted in Blacksburg, VA (Lat: 37� 15' 40" N, Lng: 80� 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters). I arrived at my sighting location at 7:45 pm EDT (sunset: 7:49 pm). The western horizon was partly cloudy and hazy. Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I started scanning the horizon. The first binocular sighting of the crescent moon was at 7:48 pm in a small clear patch. The naked eye sighting was at 7:59 pm when the moon reappeared in another clear patch. The horns were at 2:30 and 7:00 O'clock (2:30;4:00;7:00). I ended the session at 8:27 pm (moonset: 9:11 pm). At 7:50 pm, the temperature, dew point, relative humidity, and pressure were 62.0 F, 53.0 F, 71%, and 30.20 in, respectively.
