The Astronomical New Moon is on June 8, 2013 (Saturday) at 15:56 UT. On June 8, it can not be seen anywhere in the world. On Sunday, June 9, 2013, it can be seen with difficulty in Africa, and it can be easily seen in South America, Central America, and possibly in Southmost portions of USA. On Monday, June 10, it will be easily visible all over the world. (See visibility curves).

  • Australia:

    1. Not Seen: Engr Manzoor A Mian (MCW member) from Melbourne, VIC reported: We were unable to sight crescent in Melbourne today 9th June 2013 Sunday evening as it was patchy cloudy. However It was also not sighted anywhere in Australia . Thus the first day of Shaban 1434 AH will be on Tuesday 11th June 2013 in Australia inshaaAllah.

    2. Not Seen: Mouhamad Chmait (MCW member), Young, NSW reported: We attempted to sight the moon today in Young, NSW. Although the condition of the sky was clear, we were unable to sight the moon.

  • Canada:

    1. Not Seen: Baig Muhammad Tamachi (MCW member) from Peterborough Ontario reported: On June 9, Sunday, due to clouds covering the South-Westerly horizon, sighting of Shaban Hilal not successful. Observation attempt was made between 8:47pm & 9:13 pm (Local Sunset time was 8:57pm, for today!)

  • India:

    1. Not Seen: Abdussubhan Dadan (MCW Member) from Mumbai reported: I am Abdussbhan Dadan from Mumbi Maharashtra INDIA. Here afrer Maghrib prayer, I tried to see Moon But it was cloody sky and Moon was not sighted. The 1st of Sha'ban 1434 will be On 11th June 2013 Insha Allah.

    2. Not Seen: Molvi Iqbalhusen Bokda (MCW member) from Godhra, Gujrat reported: Moon was not seen today (29th Rajab & 9th June, Sunday) here in Godhra. Negative sighting reports received from many parts of Gujarat and India.

    3. Not Seen: Yusuf Idara (MCW member) from New Delhi reported: Today Thursday 09, June 2013 = 29 Rajab 1434 Hijri. I Yusuf Idara try to sight the Moon of The Month of Shaban 1434 Hijri, at New Delhi, India at 07:15 pm to 07:45 pm. Horizon wa's clear but the moon was not sighted so inshaAllah the month of Sha'ban will start from 11th June 2013

    4. Not Seen: M. Siddik Nadvi (MCW member) from Ahmedabad, Gujrat reported: On Sunday, June 9, we tried to see the crescent of Sha'ban 1434 Hijri at our Institute JAMIA KANZUL ULOOM at 7:15 pm. The cresent was not seen.

  • Malaysia:

    1. Not Seen: Mohamad Zafir Nadzri (MCW member) from Telok Kemang reported: From Tanjung Tuan (N: 02:24'26". E: 101:51:08), We are unable to see new moon on today (9 June 2013) because the sky too cloudy. From Sungai Lang (3° 49'N, 100° 48'E) also a same situation with Tanjung Tuan. However, Officially Stated in Malaysian calendar, tomorrow 10 June 2013 is 1 Sha'ban 1434H.

    2. Not Seen: Firdaus Mazlan (MCW member) from Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia reported: On Sunday, 9 th June 2013 M equal to 29 th Rajab 1434 H, I with my friend (Mr. Jamaluddin bin Abu Bakar, Mr. Muhammad Zainal Abiden bin Mohamad Hani, Mr. Abdul Hayyi Amri bin Alias, Mr. Mohammad Hasbarizal bin Hasan and Mr. Muhamad Hafizzuddin bin Mohammad Hazbarizal) and with all government officer (around 20 people) cannot see the new moon either with telescope or with naked eye at Baitul Hilal, Teluk Kemang, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia (02:26:43.0 N , 101:51:16.0 E). It because the horizon is very cloudy.

      Another place also give negative sighthing report.
      1. Pontian Kechil Beach, Pontian, Johor (01° 29' N , 103° 23' E) by Mr. Mohd Azli bin Ali and Mr. Muhammad Ibrahim bin Jamil.
      2. Punggur Beach, Batu Pahat, Johor (01° 50' N , 102° 56' E) by Mr. Shahril bin Mohamed
      3. Labrador Park, Singapore by Mr. Ibrahim bin Ali.
      However, our government have decided that tomorrow (Monday / 10/6/13) is the first Sya’ban 1434 H.

  • Panama:

    1. Not Seen in Panama, but seen in Chile: Saleh Bhai Bhattay (MCW member) from Panama City reported: On June 9, Sunday, moon was not seen in Panama city. But it was seen in Chile. On Chile shahadat Panama also started Sha'ban on June 10, Monday.

  • South Africa:

    1. Seen: Rashid Motala (MCW member) from Durban reported: On the evening of Sunday 9th June 2013, the Hilaal was sighted in Johannesburg (Waterval) and Cape Town. The 1st Sha'baan 1434 corresponds to Monday, 10th June 2013.

    2. Seen: Dr. Abdurrazak Ebrahim (MCW member) from Cape Town reported: The Shabaan Hilaal was sighted by naked-eye in Cape Town this Sunday evening (09/06/2013). The first day of Shabaan will correspond with Monday, 10 June 2013 in South Africa.

  • Sri Lanka:

    1. Not Seen: Nular Bary (MCW member) from Colombo reported: Today 29th of Rajab 1434H, (09/06/2013) evening the western sky was cloudy anyway I scanned the sky with my binocular till 7 pm. Our sunset was at 6;25 pm. But I couldn't trace a thing. Hence our Hilal committee and The Grand Mosque of Sri Lanka adviced Muslims of Sri Lanka to complete the month of Rajab with 30days and start the Month of Sha'ban on Tuesday 11th June 2013. "In Sha Allah"

  • Tanzania:

    1. Not Seen: Zaffar Sheriff (MCW member) from Daressalaam reported: Sunday 9th June: Sunset 6.14pm; Crescent Altitude 9.4; Elong 10.2; Age 23h 18m; Duration 45m.
      Haze over western horizon prevented the young crescent to be sighted. No confirmed sighting was made.

    2. Not Seen: Hamza Rijal (MCW member) from Tiny Island of Zanzibar reported: Sunday 9th June: Moon was not seen, so 11th June 2013 is declared officially as first day of Shaaban 1434 AH in tiny island of Zanzibar.

  • UK:

    1. Sighting of South Africa is accepted: Qamar Uddin (MCW member) from York reported: On Sunday 9 June 2013 (29 Rajab 1434 AH) many people from throughout the UK have attempted to sight the crescent moon (Hilal) of Shaban after sunset. None of the groups were able to sight the Hilal, even though many places had clear conditions. However, we have received reliable sighting report (Muhaqaq-Ruyat-Basari) from South Africa of a positive sighting. Therefore, the Wifaqul Ulama have decided that the month of Rajab 1434 AH will have 29-days and the month of Shaban 1434 AH will start from Monday 10 June 2013, making the night of 15 Shaban on Sunday 23 June, Insha-Allah.

      Masnun Du’aa of Rajab/Shaban: Translation: "O Allah bless us in Rajab and Sha’ban and (let us live until we) reach Ramadan."

  • USA:

    1. Not Seen (Cloudy): Dr. Javad Torabinejad (MCW member) from Blacksburg VA reported: This evening (Sunday, June 09, 2013), the crescent moon of Sha'ban was not sighted in Blacksburg, VA (Lat: 37° 15' 40" N, Lng: 80° 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters). The sky was totally cloudy; it was raining at 8:45 pm EDT (sunset: 8:41 pm). I kept checking the western horizon for a possible clearing till moonset (moonset: 9:28 pm). At 8:55 pm, the temperature, dew point, relative humidity, and pressure were 68.0 F, 68.0 F, 100%, and 30.18 in, respectively.

    2. Not Seen (Cloudy): Luqmaan Williams (MCW member) from Cleveland, OH reported: I did not sight the crescent tonight (Sunday, June 9th) in Cleveland, Ohio (USA) because it was too cloudy. Luqmaan Williams

    3. Seen: Mohamedraza H.Janmohamed (MCW member) from Sanford FL reported: The Moon-sighting Sub-committee of Orlando, Florida wishes to inform the community that the new crescent for the month of Sha’baan was sighted in Los Angeles, San Diego, & Other Cities of California.

    4. Seen: Behrooz Dehdashti (MCW member) from Tucson AZ reported: This is inform you that the new crescent was observed very clearly in Tucson, Arizona at 8 pm local time.

    5. Seen: Mohammed Yahya Shaikh (MCW member) from Anaheim CA reported: The moon for Shaban was easily visible today by naked eye (June 9th 2013) at 8:20 PM PST in Anaheim, CA. The hilal should have been seen by many in the LA and OC area.

  • Zimbabwe:

    1. Not Seen: Ayub Mahomed (MCW member) from Harare reported: Moon not sighted in Zimbabwe. However, based on moon sighting in South Africa, 1st Sha'baan is on Monday 10 June inshallah.

    1. Seen: M Shamim Ali (MCW member) from Samabula Suva reported: New Moon for the month of Sha'ban 1434H was sighted in various parts of Fiji Islands on 10th June 2013.
