    1. Not Seen: MCW member Dr. Hisham M. Hamed from Cairo reported: On Sunday 19th April, apparent Sunset was 6:25 PM. At my location in southern Cairo (29.96N, 31.25E), the crescent of Rajab 1436 was NOT seen. Venus, however, was quite clear. It first appeared about 1 minute after sunset(6:25 PM), i.e. at 6:26 PM. Yesterday, it was clearly visible at 6:17 PM. Aldeberan first appeared at 7:07 PM. The attempt started around ~ 6:46 PM.
Obviously, visibility was not perfect. Temperature was 27.7 'C, P ~ 1016.0 mb. Another team, on the road to the western Oases, west of Giza, also indicated that they had NOT been able to see the crescent.

  • Ghana:

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr. Baba Abdulai from Tamale reported: Date of sighting effort; Sunday 19TH April, 2015. The crescent was NOT seen in this location. I was at the sighting post from about 18:05 to about 19:04 but I did not see the crescent. The sky was slightly hazy with little or no clouds, per my observation. Moon age was about 23 hours at sunset local time in Tamale; with a moon lag time of about 55 minutes. Considering these two factors I find it quite surprising that I did not see the crescent. More surprising, crescent must have been quite close to the sunset position with a narrow azimuth angle (since the eclipse happened just a month ago), and I thought I knew just where to look out for the crescent. Yet I did not see it. And Allaah (SWT) Knows Best. Sighting community; Tampei-Kukuo Yepalsi, (near Bi-Water reservoir), Tamale.

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr. Ahmad I. Adjie from Patra Beach, Denpasar, Bali reported:
      SEEN BY NAKED EYE
DATE OF SIGHTING: 19 April 2015 - 29 Jumadil Thani 1436 (by naked eye calendar)
LOCATION OF SIGHTING: Patra Beach, Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia
SKY CONDITIONS: Thick-clouded at the horizon around where the Sun sets, but enough open patches near where the Moon (Hilal) should be, which is very slightly to the right of the Sun i.e. azimuth 282 compared to 281. Please note that these open patches are red or reddish, being quite near to the Horizon. Note also that there were considerable thick cloud cover to the right of the Hilal and above it as well.
TIME OF SIGHTING EFFORT: We started to sight the Moon from 18:22 gmt+8 upto moonset at 18:44 ~ the Hilal was seen transiting vertically downwards between patches of streaky clouds between 18:30 and 18:34,
NO. OF PEOPLE: 2 - Myself and Omar Rofil (an apprentice sighter which happens to be red-green color-blind).
ORIENTATION OF CRESCENT HORNS: four o'clock to eight o'clock.
FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH: For Naked Eye, 1 Rajab will be 20 April 2015, this is the same as Indonesian official govt date based on MABIMS Criterion.
REMARKS: Although both sighters are positive we saw the Moon Crescent, we could not show what we saw to other people at the beach. For myself it was not very difficult to sight because of experience (I could see the lighter red Crescent form on top of a darker reddish background) while for the apprentice it was actually easier to sight because of him being partially color-blind (Red and Green). From this experience I recommend any sighters and sighting groups worldwide to accommodate partially color-blind sighters and/or apprentice sighters.
PICTURES: We also tried to take photos of the Hilal using our cameras but the Hilal could not be seen through a normal Camera.

The tips of the crescent were at 2 O'clock and 8 O'clock, on the imaginary clock in the sky. See the the picture on right.

By the grace of Allah, I spotted it at 6:26PM, about 1 minute after apparent sunset, at which time it barely stood out from the background. In fact, I spent the next two minutes pointing at it, in an attempt to convince a colleague of mine that it was there, but he could not see it. He saw it at around 6:28 PM. This was in accordance with my expectations, since it had been seen yesterday (Sun. Apr. 19th) in Kenya, which means it must have been visible at 31.25'E that far south.
Venus, appeared about 1 minute after the moon. I couldn't see Aldeberan even at 7:15:00 PM. Obviously, visibility was not perfect, despite the fact that I could barely make out the Red Pyramid of Dahshour, ~17.6 Km away, at sunset. I might add that the sun was merely a bright white disc, that was pleasant to look at, at 6:00 PM. One could easily stare at it indefinitely. By 6:20 PM, it had completely disappeared.
The crescent was easily visible by the time I had returned from Maghrib prayers, around 6:46PM.
