On right is the waning (old) Crescent Moon (End of Ramadan 1439 AH), June 12, 2018 (Photo on the right is provided by Mr Mohamed Hussain from Palayamkottai India (Lat: 08°42'51"N :& Long: 77°44'26"E). The Altitude was about 11.5° & horns were at 5 & 9 positions. This is decreasing (waning) moon that was sighted on Tuesday 28th of Ramdhaan 1439 (12th June 2018). New Crescent Moon of Shawwal 1439: June 13, 2018 (Wednesday):

The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on Wednesday June 13, 2018 at 19:43 UT. On June 13, the moon can not be seen anywhere in the world. On June 14, it can be seen in Africa and Americas with naked eye (See visibility curves).


The earliest reported naked eye sighting of the new crescent was on June 14 2018 from Lusaka, Zambia, but from Davao City, Philippines, it was seen by CCD camera.

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Engr M Ibrahim Mayar from Kabul reported: To day, June 14th, 2018, at 7:20 local time my attempt to see the Shawal new moon ended in vain, mainly due to the low elevation of the moon upon sunset and rather hazy western horizon.

  • Australia:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Abbas Aly from Annangrove NSW reported: With perfect clear skies - no moon was sighted by us in northwest Sydney. We will complete 30 days and EID will be on Saturday 16th June 2018.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Moussa Khalife from Sydney, NSW reported: Today is Thursday 14th of June 2018 we have tried as group of 4 people to see the moon in sydney Australia , but unfortunately no luck to see the moon , the weather was clear and the place where we went to was the best spot in sydney ( Penrith observatory) and we have used the telescope but we couldn’t see the moon at all, so tomorrow is Friday the 15th of June is the 30th or ramadan 1439H.

    3. Not Seen: MCW member Engr Manzoor A Mian from Melbourne, VIC reported: Update from Australian Hillal committee : By the will of Allah swt after a lot of consultation and mashwara of Ulema Ekram, they have now come to final conclusion by *contacting all the witnesses and Ulema around Australia* and decided that Eid ul Fitr 2018 will be on Saturday 16th June as they are not convinced / fully satisfied with the witnesses who claimed to see on June 14, Thursday.
      Initially cresent was not sighted then 5 people claim from Sydney they have sighted. One backed off, two refused to take oath on Quran, and two witnesses were not enough to prove the claim so above decision was made by Ulamaa'.

    4. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Shabbir Ahmed, President of Qubaa association of Western Sydney, NSW reported: Today, the 14th of June 2018, the Hilaal of SHAWWAAL – 1439 has NOT been sighted anywhere in Australia. Although some false witnesses has brought to us. After having carefully and meticulously reviewed and reassessed the testimonies which were brought forward pertaining to the alleged sighting of the moon, the Hilaal committee was not content due to many variables and has respectfully decided for Eid to be on Saturday, 16th June 2018.

  • Barbados:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Mohammed Patel from Bridgetown reported: Today, Thursday 14th June, 2018, the Crescent WAS SEEN at approximately 6:45 p.m. local time. Orientation 3 o'clock to 7 o'clock. Therefore we had 29 days of Ramadan. Insha'Allah, the 1st of Shawwal will be on Friday 15th June,2018.

  • Brunei:


    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Mohammed Hussain Ahmad, Deputy Rector Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali Negara Brunei Darussalam reported: Brunei will celebrate Eid Fitr 1439 on Friday, June 15, 2018 as the Shawwal crescent was confirmed to have been sighted at several designated locations on Thursday, June 14, 2018.
      By the command of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Shariah High Court Judge, Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan made the announcement on Radio Television Brunei that 01 Shawwal 1439 will begin on Friday, June 15.

  • Canada:


    1. Seen: S. ShAhid from Mississauga, Ontario reported: A group of 25 people from Meadowvale Islamic Centre saw the moon at 9.30PM after more than 30 mirnutes pf efforts including with binoculars. Sunset was at 9 and moonset was at 9.58PM. Sky was clear and the crescent was very faint and thin.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Mr HiMY SYeD from Vancouver, British Columbia reported: On Thursday evening June 14 2018, after praying Maghrib in Al--Jamia Masjid Vancouver, I walked halfway along the Cambie Bridge to search for the moon. It has been partly cloudy all evening. Tonight, the horizon only had a few areas of open sky in which to search. I searched the sky for about 10 minutes. I did not see the moon.

      Hilaal was not observed in Santiago, Chile however the Hilaal was seen in Argentina by other Muslim communities thus Eid Ul Fitir in Chile and Argentina will be on Friday, 15th June, 2018.

    2. Seen: MCW member Mr Muhammad Sohail from Iquique reported: On June 14, 2018, I saw the new moon just after magrib salat, The sky was clear.

  • China:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Musa·Minhai from Linxia Gansu Province reported: On Jun 14, 2018 (Thursday), I and thirty Imames did not see the Hilal using telescope. Sighting location: lat:35°36'long:103°13'. Sunset: 20:26 pm. Moon set: 20:49 pm. Moon altitude at Sunset: 4.9°. Elongation 8.2°. The moon Age: 16h 43m. Waxing crescent:0.7%.
      In china,the first day of Shawwl 1439 began from Friday, on 15 June 2018. We Follow Malaysia, because they saw Hilal on June 14 2018.

  • Croatia:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr. Jasmin Dzaferovic from Zagreb reported: The moon supposed to be at 17 percent altitude to the east. Due to very cloudy sky it is not possible to see the moon.

  • Egypt:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Hisham M. Hamed from Cairo reported: On Thursday, June 14, 2018, I arrived at my observation point at the 28km mark on the Cairo/ Alexandria desert road just before sunset (18:58). I expected the moon at azimuth ~291.5° and altitude ~3° at best time, 19:18. The view was very clear. Visibility was great, with no cloud cover. Venus was magnificent. The timing was great. Just after Maghrib prayers, I was at the right spot at the right time. My brightness calculations had indicated that the Illuminated portion of the Moon was below the threshold of visibility. And of course I could see nothing. Other observers in two other locations ( Maadi, south Cairo, and Sheikh Zayed district, West of Giza) also reported that they could see nothing.

  • Ghana:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Malik Salifu Shaban from Garu Bawku reported: The crescent for Shawal 1439/2018 has been sighted here in the Upper West Region of Ghana today Thursday 14th June 2018. I did not see the moon personally in Garu, but a friend (Imam Ibrahim) called from Wa to confirm the sighting report. The communities that saw the moon includes: Checju, Bulinga, Kolikpong, Menwe. It was announced earlier too that Eid was to be observed on Friday,15th June 2018.

  • Guyana:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Fazal Mahmood from Corriverton, Berbice reported: The Central Moon Sighting Committee of Guyana (CMSCG) has declared the 1st of SHAWWAL 1439AH to be on Friday, 15th June, 2018 The new crescent for the Islamic lunar month of Shawwal 1439 AH was sighted on Thursday, 14th June, 2018/29th Ramadhaan1439AH. Therefore, EIDUL FITR 1439AH will be observed on Friday, 15th June, 2018

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Muhammad Hafiz also reported the sighting from Rose Hall Town, Berbice, Guyana:
      Due heavy rain clouds on the horizon Hilaal observation for Ramadan 1439 AH was made for the members of Rose Hall Town Masjid. Eid Ul Fitir in Guyana will be on Friday, 15th June, 2018.

  • India:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Iliyas Siddiqui from Bangalore reported: From Bangalore tried to see the New Moon on Thursday evening 14th June 2018. Weather: Full Clouds and Rainy. Moon was not seen.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Yusuf Idara from New Delhi reported: Today Thursday 14-June-2018 = 28-Ramadan-1439 Hijri. I & My Family tried to see the moon at my home from 07:20 pm to 07:50 pm the moon was not sighted because the horizon was too cloudy.

    3. Not Seen: Mr Khader Basha of South India reported: The Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States on June 16, Saturday, as the crescent of Shavval-ul-Mukarram was not sighted on Thursday.

    4. Seen: Mr Rasheed Usman from Kerala, India reported: Todat, June 14, in Kerala the hilal is sighted at Kappakkal Beach Kozhikode at about 7.15 pm. All the factions declared Eid tomorrow Friday in Kerala. Eid Mubarak

    5. Not Seen, but Official Announcement. MCW member Dr Sayyad Mohd Arshi from Dehradun reported: In Dehradun, 14th June 2018 is 29th Ramazan Ul Mubarak 1439 hijri (Thursday). I & my family tried to see the moon 1439 hijri Shawwal Ul Mukarram at my home from 07:45 pm to 08:05 pm moon was not sighted because Horizon was to cloudy. The announcement made by Qazi e shaher & Mufti e Shaher is for Eid to be on Saturday, 16th June 2018.

    1. Not Seen, but Official Announcement. MCW member Mr AR Sugeng Riyadi from from Assalaam Observatory (The Modern Boarding School of The Hilal of Shawal 1439 AH was NOT SIGHTED on Thursday, June 14th, 2018 from Assalaam Observatory at The Modern Boarding School of Islam ASSALAAM, Pabelan Kartasura Sukoharjo Central Java Indonesia because the sky was cloudy. This event was attended by Director of PPMI Assalaam, CASA members, Students of UIN Walisanga Semarang, Moslems and Local Jurnalists.
      However, based on the reports from BMKG Teams from Palu anda Manafo also from Karya Island Jakarta by ISRN UHAMKA (photo : it was only seen by ccd not by naked eye), LAPAN Pasuruan and several NU locations in Gresik and Lamongan, the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in the Sidang Isbath decided that Shawwal 1st, 1439 A.H starts on Friday, June 15, 2018.

  • Kenya:


    1. Not Seen, but seen by others. MCW member Mr Mahmood Essa from Mombasa reported: I tried to look for the Shawwal Cresent here in Monbasa, Kenya, but was not able to observe it. However, there were other sightings , confirmed by the Chief Kadhi, so Alhamdullilah, tomorrow Friday 15/06/2018 will in sha Allaah, will be the first day of Shawwal.

  • Libya:


    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Nuri Alfasi reported: The Ifta authority of Libya in the capital Tripoli made an official announcement that the moon crescent of Shawal 1439 H was seen in Libya on Thursday 14th JUne 2018, therefore Friday 15th June declared to be Eid 1439 H

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Imran Angullia from Johor Bahru, Johor reported: On 14th June 2018, several states in Malaysia Sigthed the Shawwal moon crescent. Therefore, Shawwal is announced to be celebrates on the 15th of June 2018.

  • Mauritius:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Nissar Ahmad Ramtoola from Port Louis reported: Moon not sighted in Mauritius today. Weather cloudy all over the island, negative sighting report from all the teams across the island. Eid ul Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday 16th June, 2018.

  • Morocco:


    1. Announcement: MCW member Mr Khalid Chraibi from Casablanca reported: The Moroccan authorities have announced that the new moon of shawwal was observed this Thursday evening. Therefore the 1st shawwal will coincide with Friday June 15, 2018.

    2. Not Seen, but Officially Announced. MCW member Mr Zakaria Guelzim from Rabat reported: The first of Shawwal 1439 is Friday 15 June 2018 I tried to sight the new moon of Shawwal after the sun set in Rabat, Morocco but the West horizon was too cloudy. The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs informed the citizens that they observed the moon of Shawwal in 1439 AH, after Maghrib on Thursday, 29 Ramadan 1439 AH, 14 June 2018 and announced that the new moon was observed. Therefore, the beginning of the month of Shawwal is on Friday 15 June 2018.

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Ahmed Mohamed Barakah from Windhoek reported: Moon was sighted in windhoek namibia

  • Nepal:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Muhammad Aamir, Vice Secretary Nepali Jame Masjid Committee, Kathmandu reported: On Thursday, 14 June 2018, many people tried to see the moon, but moon was not seen at Nepali Jame Masjid, Kathmandu, Bagmati, Nepal (Cloudy and Rainy condition). TIME OF SIGHTING EFFORT: from 6:50 pm to 7:30 pm.

  • New Zealand:


    1. Not Seen: Sultan Eusoff, Federation of Islamic Association of New Zealand (FIANZ) Hilal Committee reported: Moon was not sighted by us in New Zealand. We will complete 30 days and EID will be on Saturday 16th June 2018.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Wajid Hussain from Palmerston North and MCW member Mr Ahmed Mohammed from Auckland reported: The Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ) has announced that the moon of Shawaal has NOT been sighted today (Thursday 14 June 2018). Therefore the first day of Shawaal will be on Saturday 16 June 2018 and Eidul Fitre will be observed all over New Zealand on Saturday 16 June 2018 Insha Allah.

  • Nigeria:


    1. Not Seen, but Officially Announced. MCW member Mr Jinadu Yunusa from Kish, Oyo State reported: We couldn't go out to sight for the new crescent moon of Shawwal today Thursday, 14/06/18~ 1439\09\29 due to heavy rainfall. But it was reported by the National Moon Sighting Committee that the moon was sighted in various places in the northern part of the country. Consequence upon report of the committee, the Sultan who's the Chairman of the Nigerian Council for Islamic Affairs made an official announcement that tomorrow Friday the 15th of June is the first day of Shawwal. Eidil Mubaraq.

    2. Not Seen, but Officially Announced. MCW member Wasiu Adedamola from Agege, Lagos reported: The crescent of Shawwal 1439AH could not be Sighted in Alausa-Ikeja Lagos Nigeria tonight Thursday 14th June 2018. Although the cloud was not too clear. However, the Islamic Council in Nigeria Has already declared 15th June 2018 as 1st of Shawwal for the Eid.

  • Pakistan:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Shafqat Qamar from Rawalpindi reported: The moon has not been sighted in Pakistan declared by official statement of central moon sighting committee of Pakistan. Eid is on June 16, Saturday. Dr Shafqat Qamar

  • Philippines:


    1. Not Seen, but Officially Announced. MCW member Mr Jalil Rayhan from Cotabato reported: Cotabato City had a cloudy sky, crescent moon not seen. Nevertheless, "The ARMM Regional Darul-Ifta' declares that today 29th of Ramadhan, 1439 A.H / June 14, 2018 G. (Thursday) the moon was sighted in Indonesia, confirmed by the Consul Agus Majid Consulate of Indonesia. Therefore, the 1st day of Shawwal and the Eid'l Fitr congregational prayer will be tomorrow June 15, 2018."

    2. Not Seen, but Officially Announced. MCW member Dr Ali B. Panda from Marawi City reported: This is to inform you that Eid el Fitr will be celebrated tomorrow Friday June 15, 2018 based on sighting from Indonesia. But, according to the report from Indonesia to this Website, moon was Not Seen, but Official Announcement.     1. Seen: MCW member Mr Rashid Motala from Durban reported: On the evening of Thursday 14th June 2018, the Hilaal WAS sighted in South Africa (in many locations). Therefore Shawwaal 1439 will commence on Friday 15th June 2018 in South Africa.

  • Spain:

  • Sri Lanka:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Suhail Patel from Colombo reported: Today, June 14, 2018 = 28th Ramadan. After the urgent committee meeting, the Colombo Grand Mosque confirmed that the newmoon has NOT been sighted in Sri Lanka. So the Ullamas have decided to meet again tomorrow (15.6.2018) after maghrib prayers. so the Eid Ul Fithr can fall on either Saturday or Sunday in sha Allah.

  • Tanzania:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Hamza Rijal from Tiny Island of Zanzibar reported: The Shawal Hilal was sighted in number of places from tiny island of Zanzibar-Tanzania on Thursday 14 June 2018; The official first day of the Shawal will be on Friday, 15 June 2018.

Seen (in South Africa): MCW member Mr Saraj Qazi (Secretary General, Markazi Jamat Ahle Sunnat UK & Overseas Trust) from Luton, Bedfordshire reported: Markazi Jamat Ahle Sunnat UK & Overseas Trust, in the United Kingdom, made the following announcement: On Following the Sharia of RasoolAllah (saw) we have confirmed a credible positive moon sighting in South Africa. We therefore announce 1st of Shawaal and Eid Ul Fitr will be on Friday 15th June 2018.

    2. Seen (in South Africa): Mr Danyal Shoaib from London reported: National Council of Mosques London has agreed that Eid al-Fitr will be tomorrow Inshallah, Friday the 15th of June 2018.

  • Trinidad and Tobago:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Umar Abdullah from Bon Accord, Tobago reported: The crescent moon for Shawwaal 1439 AH was looked for after the sunset of Thursday 14th June 2018. Reports from all committees locally and regional confirm that the moon was SIGHTED. We have accepted these reports and have declared that Shawwal begins on Friday 15th June 2018.

    1. Seen: MCW member Engr. Khalid Shaukat from Gaithersburg, Maryland reported: On Thursday June 14th 2018, the Crescent was sighted by me and many members of Islamic Center of Maryland around 9:10 pm.

    2. Seen: Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America reported: The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Friday, June 15th, 2018, will be the first day of the month of Shawwal, 1439 A.H. for the entire region of North America. This determination is based on the fact that there were reported sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye during the sunset of Thursday, June 14th, 2018, from many locations in the United States.

    3. Seen: MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg VA reported: This evening (Thursday, June 14, 2018), the crescent moon was sighted in Blacksburg, VA (Lat: 37° 15' 40" N, Lng: 80° 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters). I arrived at my sighting location at 8:20 pm EDT (sunset: 8:44 pm). The western horizon was partly cloudy and hazy. Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I started scanning the horizon. The first binocular sighting was at 8:45 pm followed by naked eye sighting at 8:46 pm. The horns were at 2:00 and 6:30 O'clock (2:00;4:00;6:30). While Jupiter and Venus were easily visible, a quick attempt to sight Mercury was unsuccessful. Two of my friends were present and sighted the crescent. We left the site prior to moonset (moonset: 9:44 pm). At 8:55 pm, the temperature, dew point, relative humidity, and pressure were 72.0 F, 58.5 F, 62%, and 30.08 in, respectively.

    4. Seen: MCW member Mr Khalil Homafar from Houston TX reported: On Thursday June 14th 2018, the Crescent was sighted by me and many members in Houston Texas at 8:39 pm. The sky was cloudy. The crescent horn in clockwise direction was from almost 2 to 8. Therefore, Friday June 15th is the 1st day of Shawal.

    5. Seen: MCW member Dr Muhammad Hafiz from Queens NY reported: The Hilaal for Ramadan 1439 AH was seen today Thursday, 14th June, 2018 at sunset after Magrib in Queens New York on the roof of Masjid As Siddiq by myself, and two other brothers (Arif Zamdin and Saheed Baksh).

    6. Not Seen: MCW member Hamid Quraishi, Imam Islamic Center of Winona (ICW) MN reported: On June 14, 2018, the crescent of Shawal 1439 hijri, was not visible with naked eye due to scattered cloudy condition in Winona. However, based on the other reports, ICW will celebrate Eid ul Fitr on June 15, 2018. Eid Mubarak to everyone.

    7. Seen: Mr Lotfy Mohamed from Aurora, CO reported: The new Shawal moon was sighted this evening at Aurora CO starting at 8:47 pm. around 295 degrees NW.

    8. Seen: Mr Bilal Huzair from Medina NY reported: Hilal of Eid ul Fitr was seen on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 8:54pm in Medina, NY by Haji Bilal and 3 others without the aid of instruments.

    9. Seen: Mr Norm Vargas from San Gabriel, CA reported: The crescent was seen at 8:20 pm on June 14 after clouds on the western horizon cleared. Mercury was also seen with the naked eye.

  • Zambia:

Tomorrow (Friday) Will Be EID Ul FITR.
