Al urjoonul qadeem of Rajab 1442: March 13 & March 12, 2021

On right is the old Crescent Moon of Rajab 1442 AH, seen on March 12, 2021. Photo on the right is provided by MCW member Mr AR Sugeng Riyadi from Rowasiya Observatory, Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java Indonesia. The sky was clear after running several days before. This waning crescent was captured before sunrise.

MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg VA reported: On the morning of (Thursday, March 11, 2021), using a pair of (7X50) binoculars, I sighted the moon in Blacksburg, VA. It was very hazy and hard to see the moon. Please find attached a couple of images. In the first image, the moon is located above the middle light point and just above the lower cloud, as it is coming up on the horizon. My sighting was at 6:14 am EST (moonrise: 6:05).

New Crescent Moon of Sha'ban 1442:
The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on March 13, 2021 (Saturday) at 10:21 UT.
On March 13, the moon can only be seen by high powered telescope from Central and South Americas. On March 14, the moon can be seen from Far East westward (See visibility curves).

The earliest reported sighting of the new crescent was on March 14 from Perth, Austrailia.

    1. Not Seen: MCW member Muhammad Sohail from Iquique reported: From Coquimbo city of Chile, today, March 13, Saturday, the moon of Sha'ban is not seen although the sky was absolutely clear.

  • Grenada, Carribeans:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Farid Patel, St George's Carribeans reported: Today, March 13, Saturday, Current time 6.15pm: Sunset time 6.18pm: Moonset time 6.40pm: Weather & Visibility: horizon completely overcast, slight rain. Chances of sighting crescent was almost impossible.

  • India:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Rasheed Usman, Kozhikode, Kerala reported: Moon was not seen on March 13, 2021. In Kerala State, we are completing 30th day of Rajab 1442 AH and beginning the month of Sha'aban on Sunday evening. Thus the first day of Sha'aban will be thus Monday, March 15, 2021.

  • Kenya:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Muhammad A Said from Mombasa reported: Today Saturday 13th of March 2021/29th of Rajab 1442, the weather was mostly clear. I was not able to see the crescent for Sha'ban. Sunday the 14th of March will be 30th of Rajab and Monday the 15th of March will be the 1st of Sha'ban.

Not Seen: MCW member HabibuRahman Yunus, Yola, Adamawa State reported: We tried to observe the crescent moon for the month of Shaaban, 1442 today [Saturday] 13th March, 2021 from sunset till 6:42 Pm [20 minutes after sunset] here in Bako, Yola, Yola South Local Government of Adamawa State, Nigeria. The crescent moon was not sighted; the sky was cloudy.

  • South Africa:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Rashid Motala from Durban reported: On the evening of Saturday 13 March 2021, the Hilaal was NOT sighted in South Africa. Therefore Sha'baan 1442 will commence on Monday, 15 March 2021 in South Africa.

  • Trinidad and Tobago:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Umar Abdullah from Bon Accord, Tobago reported: Saturday, 13th March 2021, after sunset we looked for the new moon of Sha'baan 1442 AH. The moon was NOT SIGHTED. Therefore the month of Rajab, 1442 completed 30 days. Hence the 1st night of Sha'baan 1442 was the night of Sunday 14th March 2021 and the first day of Sha'baan 1442 would be today Monday 15th March 2021.

    1. Not Seen: Wifaqul Ulama Administrator of Britain reported: New Moon for Sha'ban 1442 was NOT sighted in the designated zone for UK. Therefore, the month of Rajab will complete 30 days and Sha'ban 1442 will begin on Sunday after Maghrib. The first day will be on Monday, 15th of March 2021.

  • USA:


    1. Not Seen: Husaini Islamic Center from Orlando, FL reported: The Moon-sighting Sub-committee wishes to inform the community that there was NO sighting of the new crescent on Saturday, March 13, 2021. Therefore upon completion of 30 days, MONDAY, MARCH 15, 2021 is established as the 1st Day of Mahe Sha�baan, 1442 AH.

    2. Not Seen: Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announced: The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Sunday, March 14th, 2021 will be the last day of the month of Rajab and that Monday, March 15th, 2021, will be the first day of the month of Shaban, 1442 A.H. for the entire region of North America.
      This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Saturday, March 13th, 2021 in any region of North America.

    3. Not Seen: MCW member Shahnoor Syed, On Behalf of Mahdavia Ruiyat e Hilal of Chicago, IL reported: Faqir Abulfatah Syed Nusrat hereby declares that the Hilal of SHABAN 1442H was NOT sighted on the 29th of Rajab - Saturday, March13, 2021 anywhere in mainland USA and Canada. As such RAJAB will complete 30 days and the first day of SHABAN will be on Monday, March 15, 2021 in North America.

  • Australia:


    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Shabbir Ahmed, President of Qubaa association of Western Sydney, NSW reported: Today (Sunday) 14th of March 2021, the Hilal of Sha�baan 1442 has been sighted in Perth. Therefore, the month of Sha�baan 1442 will begin from Monday, 15th March 2021. Click on the photo on the right to see full size.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Moussa Khalife from Sydney, NSW reported: Today on Sunday 14th of March 2021, we couldn�t see the moon in Sydney Ausralia, the weather was raining and sky was full of clouds all over the horizon so we had no chance to see the moon .

  • Egypt:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Hisham M. Hamed from Cairo reported: I attempted to observe the Hilal of Sha'ban tonight, Sun March 14th (Pi day) from Ma'adi (29.96�N, 31.25�E), South Cairo. At apparent sunset, 18:03, there was no sign of the Hilal. There were thick grey clouds covering the lower 12� above the horizon. This condition persisted until moonset, and yet again my attempt was as inconclusive as it was futile.

    1. Seen: MCW member Yusuf Idara from New Delhi reported: Moon was sighted today, Sunday, March 14, 2021. Monday, 15th March, will be 1st Sha�ban, 1442 Hijri.

    2. Seen: MCW member Md Ohidullah from Birbhum, West Bengal reported: I tried to see the new moon, but couldn't. However, According to reliable sources, the new cresent moon of the month of Sha'ban has been seen in Kolkata & Delhi. Therefore, tomorrow (Monday 15th March 21) 1442 AH Sha'ban month is starting.

  • Kenya:


    1. Seen: MCW member Muhammad A Said from Mombasa reported: On March 14, Sunday, the weather was slightly cloudy. I was able to See the new crescent with the naked eyes at 6:54 pm east African time (after locating it with a binocular).

  • Libya:


    1. Seen: MCW member Khaled Shehab from Tripoli / Libya at Gergarish reported: Today Sunday, 14.03.2021, I have 30 Sha'ban. Our local sunset time was 19.15. I saw easly the Hilal with the binocular 20X50 from 19.25 until 19.31 and with naked eyes from 19.31. The sky was clear.

  • New Zealand:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Abid Jafery from Auckland reported: Tuesday, 16 Mar 2021, will be the 1st of Shaban 1442 Hijri InshaAllah based NO reported sightings from anywhere in NZ and Fiji on Sun 14 Mar 2021 (29 Rajab 1442).

  • Tanzania:


    1. Seen: MCW member Hamza Rijal from Tiny Island of Zanzibar reported: The moon for Shaaban was sighted with naked eye on Sunday 14th March 2021 in tiny island of Zanzibar. Monday 15th March 2021 is therefore the 1st Shaaban 2021 AH.

  • USA:


    1. Seen: MCW member Ishaq Majeed from Hyattsville, MD reported: On Sunday March 14th moon was sightied. Moon orientation: 2 to 8 O'clock

    2. Seen: MCW member Lavon Brown from Hyattsville, Windsor, NJ reported: On 14-Mar-2021 at 7:25 pm I sighted the moon in the parking lot of the Muslim Center Greater Princeton in West Windsor, NJ. The orientation of the hilal�s horns was from approximately 2 O�Clock to 6 O�Clock. I saw it clearly with the naked eye. I was on a zoom hilal meeting at the time. It was also sighted by a group of people in Delaware, USA as well about 10 minutes later. At the same time I received pictures from two residents of West Windsor in other locations in West Windsor of the same hilal.

    3. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg VA reported: This evening (Sunday, March 14, 2021), the crescent moon was not seen in Christiansburg, VA (Lat: 37� 7' 48" N, Lng: 80� 24' 32" W, and elevation: 638 meters). Due to the presence of an overcast condition, no extended sighting was attempted (moonset: 9:45 pm EDT).

    4. Seen: Moonsighting.com friend Omer Smith from Al-Huda School, College Park, MD reported: The moon of Sha'ban was easily seen by me and Br Abdul Qaadir at Al-Huda School on March 14, 2021. Photo was taken by Br Abdul Qaadir Click on the photo on the right to see full size.
