New Crescent Moon of Rabi-al-Awwal 1443:
The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on October 6, 2021 (Wednesday) at 11:05 UT.
On October 6, the moon can only be seen by high powered telescope in North America and Western South America. On October 7, it may be seen in Far-East, and Westward. Europe may see it with difficulty. On October 8, it is visible in the world (See visibility curves).

The earliest reported sighting of the new crescent was on October 7, 2021 from Australia.

October 6, 2021 (Wednesday):

  • Barbados:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mohammed Patel from from Jama Masjid in Bridgetown reported: On Wednesday 6th October, 2021, the Crescent was NOT SEEN. Therefore, we will have 30 days of Safar. The 1st of Rabi-al-Awwal will be on Friday 8th October.

  • Chile:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Muhammad Sohail from Iquique reported: In Chile today Oct 6, 2021 the new moon is not sighted anywhere. The month of Rabi ul awawal will start on Friday Oct 8, 2021.

  • Grenada:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Farid Patel, St George's Carribeans reported: On Oct 6, (29th Safar) the moon is not sighted in Grenada or in the region. We will complete 30 days for the month of Safar.

October 7, 2021 (Thursday):

  • Australia:


    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Shabbir Ahmed, President of Qubaa association of Western Sydney, NSW reported: Today (Thursday) 7th of October 2021, the Hilal of RABI �UL AWWAL 1443 has been sighted in Canberra (ACT) and Townsville (QLD). Therefore, the month of RABI �UL AWWAL 1443 will begin from Friday, 8th of October 2021.

  • India:


    1. Seen: MCW member Rasheed Usman, from Kozhikode, Kerala reported: The hilal of Rabiul Awwal sighted on Thursday evening 7th October 2021 in Kozhikode and Kapad Beaches Kerala by a lot of people. The month of Rabiul Awwal begins from Thursday evening. The Rabiul Awwal 1 corresponds to Friday 8th October 2021 in the State of Kerala.

    2. Not Seen (because of clouds): MCW member Zaid Duch from Nadiad, Gujrat reported: On Thursday, 07th of October 2021 (29 Safar, 1443) between 18:10 to 19:15 (Sunset 18:20 & Moonset 19:11) at Location: Navi Masjid, Nadiad, Gujarat, India; we group of 4 people attempted to sight the crescent moon (Hilal) of Rabiul Awwal. We were not able to sight the Hilal, the western horizon was covered with clouds.

  • Indonesia:


    1. Seen: MCW member AR Sugeng Riyadi from Asy-Syi'ra Observatory Central Java Indonesia reported: The new crescent of Rabiul Awal 1443 AH was sighted from my location on Thursday, Oct 07, 2021 at Asy-Syi'ra Observatory MAN 1 Surakarta Central Java. We also conducted rukyat hilal at Assalaam Observatory, the Islamic Assalaam Modern Boarding School in Sukoharjo Central Java Indonesia. The sky was rather cloudy, the hilal was not sighted by naked eye. The hilal was sighted approx 10 menutes after sunset by telescope. The 1st of Rabiul Awal 1443 AH in Indonesia will start on Friday, Oct 08, 2021.

  • Mauritius:

Seen: MCW member Nissar Ahmad Ramtoola from Port Louis reported: The New Moon has been sighted tonight thursday 7 October 2021 at several localities in Mauritius. 1st reported visibility was from Cote d�Or at 18.18 hrs. Sunset was at 18.10hrs. Hence Friday 8 October 2021 will be the 1st day of Rabi Ul Awwal 1443. Eid Milaad Un Nabi saw (12th day of Rabi Ul Awwal) will be celebrated on Tuesday 19 October 2021.

  • Nigeria:


    1. Not Seen (because of clouds): MCW member HabibuRahman Yunus, Yola, Adamawa State reported: The crescent moon for the blessed month of Rabi Al-Awwal 1443 was not sighted today [Thursday] 7th October 2021 here in Dodore, Yola, Nigeria due to cloudy weather.

  • Pakistan:


    1. Seen: MCW member Shoaib Saleem from Tarbela Dam reported: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (CRHC) of Pakistan announced on Thursday, 07-10-2021, that the crescent for the month of Rabi-ul-Awal was sighted in Pakistan, the first Rabi-ul-Awwal will be on Friday, 08-10-2021.

  • South Africa:


    1. Seen: MCW member Rashid Motala from Durban reported: Notification from the Soofie Darbar (Riverside, Durban) has been received of confirmed moonsighting in South Africa on the evening of the 7th Oct 2021, hence marking the start of Rabi ul Awal 1443 in South Africa.

    2. Seen: MCW member Rashid Motala from Durban reported: On the evening of Thursday 7 October 2021, the Hilaal WAS sighted in South Africa. Therefore Rabi-ul-Awwal 1443 will commence on Friday, 8 October 2021 in South Africa.

  • Sri Lanka:


    1. Seen: MCW member Nular Bary from Colombo reported: Today 29th Of Saffar 1443H, Oct 7, 2021), evening the new Moon of Rabi ul awwal sighted by naked eye in several cities in Sri Lanka Hence tomorrow 8thFriday Oct. 2021 is the 1st. of Rabi Ul Awwal in Sri Lanka

  • Tanzania:


    1. Seen: MCW member Hamza Rijal from Tiny Island of Zanzibar reported: The Hilal was sighted on Thursday evening 7th October 2021 in the tiny Island of Zanzibar, Tanzania, the end of 29 Safaar 1443 AH. The official first day of Rabil-al-Awaal will correspond with Friday, 8th October 2021. Mufti Office announced that the first day of Rabil-al-Awwal is on 8th October 2021.

  • USA:


    1. Not Seen (because of clouds): MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg VA reported: This evening (Thursday, Oct 7, 2021), the crescent moon was not seen in Blacksburg, VA (Lat: 37� 15' 40" N, Lng: 80� 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters). I arrived at my sighting location at 6:42 pm EDT (sunset 6:57 pm). Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), at times I scanned a mostly cloudy western horizon with no success. Hoping for appearance of a clearing in the right section of the horizon, I stayed there till moonset (moonset: 7:56 pm). At 7:15 pm, the temperature, dew point, relative humidity, and pressure were 64 F, 64 F, 100%, and 30.25 in, respectively.

    2. Seen: MCW member Shahnoor Syed, On Behalf of Mahdavia Ruiyat e Hilal of Chicago, IL reported: Faqueer Abulfath Syed Nusrat hereby declares that the Hilal - New Moon of Rabbi ul Awwal 1443H was sighted at multiple locations across North America, (Mainland USA & Canada) on Thursday, October 07, 2021 i.e. the 29th of Safar ul Muzaffar.

    3. Seen: MCW member Mohamedraza H.Janmohamed from Sanford FL reported: The Moon-sighting Sub-committee wishes to inform the community that the new crescent was sighted in various cities on Thursday, October 07, 2021. Therefore, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 08, 2020 is established as the 1st Day of Mahe Rabi-ul-Awwal, 1443 AH. As such 1st day of Rabbi ul Awwal 1443H will be on Friday, October 08, 2021 in N. America.

    4. Seen: Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announced: The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Friday, October 8th, 2021, will be the first day of the month of Rabi al-Awwal, 1443 A.H. for the entire region of North America. This determination is based on the fact that there were verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Thursday, October 7th, 2021 in many locations in different states.
