Al urjoonul qadeem of Jumada-at-Thania 1443: February 1 & January 31, 2022

Above is the old Crescent Moon of Jumada al-Thani 1443 AH, seen on January 29, 2022. Photo is provided by MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad The first sighting of the waning moon was with naked eye at 7:14 am in the Town of Christiansburg, VA (sunrise: 7:27 am EST). Please find attached a couple of pictures I took this morning of the waining crescent.

New Crescent Moon of Rajab 1443:
The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on February 1, 2022 (Tuesday) at 5:46 UT.
On February 1, the moon can be seen in South and Central Americas with difficulty, but easily in Polynesian Islands. On February 2, the moon can be seen in the whole world (See visibility curves).

The earliest reported sighting of the new crescent was on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from California, USA.

February 1, 2022 (Tuesday):

  • Australia:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Shabbir Ahmed, President of Qubaa association of Western Sydney, NSW reported: Today (Tuesday) 1st of February 2022, the Hilal of Rajab 1443 has not been sighted anywhere in Australia. Therefore, the month of Rajab 1443 will begin from Thursday, 3rd of February 2022.

  • India:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Rasheed Usman, Kozhikode, Kerala reported: Hilal of Rajab 1443 AH Was not sighted anywhere in the State of Kerala, India in the evening of Tuesday 1st February 2022.

  • Kenya:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Muhammad A Said from Mombasa reported: Today Tuesday 1st of February 2022 / 29th Jumad-al Thani 1443. There was a thick low lying cloud from the horizon About 2.5� to 3� high (which completely blocked the sun from view, 10 minutes before sunset) We used Astronomical binoculars to look for the moon, but we were not able to see the crescent. Reports from Zanzibar with recently aquird Telescope also Negative.

  • South Africa:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Rashid Motala from Durban reported: On the evening of Tuesday, February 1, 2022, the Hilaal was NOT sighted in South Africa. Therefore Rajab 1443 will commence on Thursday, 3 February 2022 in South Africa.

    2. Not Seen: MCW member Mr Keeka, Mohamed Iqbal from Pretoria reported: The moon marking the start of Rajab 1443 was NOT sighting in South Africa on the 1st February 2022. The month of Rajab 1443 will thus begin in South Africa after Maghrib on Wednesday, 2nd February 2022.

  • Tanzania:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Hamza Rijal from Tiny Island of Zanzibar reported: The Hilal was not sighted on the tiny Island of Zanzibar on the 1st February 2022, therefore the official first day of Rajab will correspond with Thursday 3rd February 2022

  • USA:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg VA reported: This evening (Tuesday, February 1, 2022), the crescent moon was not seen in Blacksburg, VA (Lat: 37� 15' 40" N, Lng: 80� 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters). I arrived at my sighting location before sunset (sunset: 5:47 pm EST). The sky was partly cloudy and hazy. Using mostly a pair of (10X50) binoculars, I scanned the area where the moon supposed to be based on the Stellarium software. I was unable to sight the moon but at some point I saw Jupiter and tried to use it to find the crescent without success. I left the site at 6:25 pm (moonset: 6:21 pm).

    2. Not Seen: Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announced: he Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Thursday, February 3rd, 2022 will be the first day of the month of Rajab, 1443 A.H. for the entire region of North America.
      This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022 in any region of North America. Therefore, Wednesday, February 2nd, 2022 will be the last day of Jumada al-Akhira.

    3. Not Seen: MCW member Shahnoor Syed, On Behalf of Mahdavia Ruiyat e Hilal of Chicago, IL reported: Hilal of RAJAB 1443H was NOT Sighted at anyplace in N America on the 29th of Jamadi us Sani - Tuesday, February 01, 2022. As such the 1st day of RAJAB 1443H will be on Wednesday, February 03, 2022 in N. America.

    4. Seen with binoculars after first spotting it with telescope: MCW member Mr Norm Vargas from San Gabriel CA reported: The crescent moon was seen this evening (Feb 1, Tuesday) from the Chilao Campground, in the Angeles National Forest of Los Angeles County, California. Local sunset was 5:19 pm on a ridge to the west southwest. The moon was first seen at 5:33 pm with an 80mm spotting scope when it was 5.2� high. The horns were at the 3 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions and the arc was irregular and fragmented. It was seen in binoculars at 5:39 pm when 4.2� high. Some photos were taken between 5:46 and 5:55 pm with both a 100-300mm zoom lens and a 90mm telescope and the crescent was seen in each. The moon was never seen naked eye due to haze and humidity from recent fog in the Los Angeles basin. Local temperature was 41� F and humidity was above 40%. Pictures will be sent shortly.

Not Seen: MCW member Mohamedraza H.Janmohamed from Sanford FL reported: The Moon-sighting Sub-committee wishes to inform the community that there was no verified sighting of the new crescent for Mahe Rajab on Tuesday, February 01, 2022. Thus THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 03, 2021 is established as the 1st Day of Mahe Rajab, 1443 AH.

February 2, 2022 (Wednesday):

  • Australia:


    1. Seen: MCW member Imam Abul Qasim Rizvi, Imam Juma Melbourne reported: On February 2, Wednesday the moon has been sighted in Suburban area of Melbourne (Tarneit) and in Adelaide. However due to cloudy conditions in most of other states we were unable to get sighting. Insha�Allah 1st Rajab 1443 Hijri will be on Thursday 3rd February 2022.

  • China:


    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Musa�Minhai from Linxia Gansu Province reported: Today, 2 February 2022, Hilal of Rajab 1443 AH has sighted in Qinghuang City in China by one Imam, He shooted one photo.

  • Egypt:


    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Hisham M. Hamed from Cairo reported: Tonight, Wed, Feb. 2nd, apparent sunset was at 17:33, here in Cairo, Egypt. There was no sign of the moon for another four minutes, at least. The clouds had cleared up about an hour before sunset, and there were no clouds in the direction of the moon above the lower 2�. The view was exceptionally clear. I then went off to Maghrib prayers, and saw the Hilal of Rajab a few seconds before 17:59. Temperature, pressure and relative humidity were 18�C, 1012mb and 35% respectively.

    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Malik Salifu Shaban from Garu Bawku reported: The Hilaal for Rajab 1443 has been sighted here in Garu in the upper east region of Ghana today, Wednesday, February the 2nd 2022. The crescent is high under a clear and bright sky. I personally saw the moon after Maghrib prayer at the ASWAJ mosque in Garu.

  • India:


    1. Seen: MCW member Zaid Duch from Gujrat, India reported: I sighted the crescent moon (Hilal) of 1st day of Rajjab 1443; today on Wednesday, 02nd of February 2022 (29 Jumada Al Aakhar 1443); at location Navi Masjid,Nadiad,Gujarat, India. The Crescent moon was sighted with a naked eye at 18:40. See www.Navimasjid.com

    2. Seen: MCW member Mr Rasheed Usman, Kozhikode, Kerala reported: The hilal of Rajab 1443 AH has been sighted today Wednesday 2nd February 2022 evening at Thoppayil Beach, Kozhikode and a few other places in Kannur and Kasargode Districts as per reports. Accordingly the Qazis of the State declared start of Rajab from Thursday 3rd February.

  • Qatar:


    1. Seen: MCW member Mr Ahmed Karim from Al-Wakrah, Qatar reported: I sighted the crescent ?? moon (Hilal) of 1st day of Rajab 1443; today on Wednesday, 2nd February 2022 at location Al Meshaf, Al wakrah, Qatar. The crescent ?? moon was sighted with a naked eye around 18:25.
