New Crescent Moon of Rabi-al-Awwal 1445:

The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on September 15, 2023 (Friday) at 01:39 UT.

On September 15, the moon can be seen by high powered telescope in Americas. On September 16, it can be seen with difficulty in Far East and Southern Europe, but can be easily seen in Africa and Americas. (See visibility curves).

The earliest reported sighting of the new crescent was on September 16 (Saturday) from Australia.


September 15, 2023 (Tuesday):

  • Albania:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Ebu Xhunejd (Ledjo Hyka) from Tirana reported: On September 15, we couldn't sight the new moon at any part of our country so tomorrow 17 September is the first of Rabiul Awwal.

  • Australia:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Dr Shabbir Ahmed, President of Qubaa association of Western Sydney, NSW reported: Today (Friday) 15th of September 2023, the Hilal of Rabi �Ul Awwal 1445 has not been sighted anywhere in Australia. Therefore, the month of Rabi �Ul Awwal will begin from Sunday, 17th of September 2023.

  • Canada:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member HiMY SYeD from Brampton, Ontario reported: On September 15 we had very good, though not perfect, conditions to search for the new Crescent. Very few clouds above the horizon, with some light haze. I searched for the New Crescent using the naked eye, for at least ten minutes after Maghrib. I did not see it.

  • Grenada:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Farid Patel from Grenada reported: The moon for Rabiul awwal was not sighted on 15th of September in Grenada.

  • India:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Rasheed Usman, Kozhikode, Kerala reported: There's no report of sighting of hilal of Rabiul Awwal 1445 AH, on Friday evening 15th September 2023 anywhere in the State of Kerala, informed Sayyid Nazir Hayyu Thangal, Valiya Qazi of Kozhikode, Kerala.

  • Mauritius:


    1. Not Seen: Mr Ahaad Choychun from Port Louis reported: The crescent moon was not seen in Mauritius this evening Friday September 15, 2023 so Saturday September 16 will be the 30th day of Safar 1445 and Sunday September 17, 2023 will be the 1st day Rabi Ul Awwal 1445. Eid Meelad Un Nabi (saw) will be celebrated on Thursday September 28, 2023.

  • Qatar:


    1. Not Seen: Habiburahman Yunus from Alkhor, Qatar reported: I search for the crescent moon for the blessed month of Rabi Al-Awwal 1445 [Friday] 15th September 2023 here in Alkhor, Qatar. I couldn't sight it despite the clear weather.

  • South Africa:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Rashid Motala from Durban reported: On the evening of Friday 15 September 2023, the Hilaal was NOT sighted in South Africa. Therefore Rabi-ul-Awwal 1445 will commence on Sunday, 17 September 2023 in South Africa.

  • Turkey:


    1. Not Seen: Mr. Yilmaz Celik (Mansour Faradini) from Izmir Turkey reported: We could not see the Rabiul-awwal crescent. The month of Safar is already 29th. That's why we complete it in 30 days. The first day will be September 17, 2023.

  • UK:


    1. Not Seen: MCW member Mooez Ahmad from Bradford reported: Negative moonsighting verdict from Bradford. Safar Ul Muzaffar will complete 30 days and 1st Rabi Ul Awwal tomorrow after Maghrib Mawlid Un nabi will be 28th September 2023 In sha Allah.

  • USA:


    1. Not Seen: Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announced: The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Sunday, September 17th, 2023 will be the first day of Rabi al-Awwal, 1445 A.H. for the entire region of North America. This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Friday, September 15th, 2023 in any region of North America. Therefore, Saturday, September 16th, 2023, will be the last day of Safar, 1445 A.H.

    2. Not Seen: Mahdavia Ruyat e Hilal in North America announced: Hilal of Rabi ul Awwal was NOT Sighted at anyplace in Mainland USA on the 29th of SAFAR - FRIDAY, September 15, 2023. As such the month of SAFAR will complete 30 days and the First day of Rabi ul Awwal 1445 will be on Sunday, September 17, 2023 in the USA.

      September 16, 2023 (Wednesday):

  • Australia:


    1. Seen: MCW member Abul Qasim Rizvi, Imam Juma Melbourne reported: On September 16, Moon has been sighted in Eastern Australia. 1st Rabiul Awwal 1445 AH will be on Sunday 17th September 2023.

    2. Seen: MCW member Moussa Khalife from Sydney, NSW reported: Today is Saturday 16th of September 2023 , we have sighted the moon for Rabie al awwal in sydney Australia , the weather was clear and the crescent was sighted easily , so tomorrow Sunday is the 1st of Rabie al awwal 1455H.

  • India:


    1. Seen: MCW member Sameer Hasan, from Raipur, Chhattisgarh reported: Moon of Rabi Al Awwal was seen today on 16 September, at Raipur (Chhattisgarh India) Crescent horns were at 2 to 8 o 'clock. Horizon was cloudy but cresent was visible for atleast 10 mins around 6:25 pm

  • Lebanon:


    1. Seen: MCW member Dr. Hadi Jaafar from Beirut reported: I Sighted the crescent moon this evening with ease with the naked eye with my family (September 16 in Beirut at around 7:10 local time). Very thin but visible, thanks to the clear September skies.

  • USA:


    1. Seen: MCW member Dr Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg VA reported: Earlier today, September 16, using a pair of binoculars (7X50) I sighted the crescent in the afternoon at 2:34 pm EDT. The horns were approximately at 1-3:30 O'clock. At that time the sky was partly cloudy.
